Do you think it is imperative to be more than just a "churchgoer"? to be a part of a ministry? or a small group? or an usher/trustee? etc.?
Explain.
I don't know that it is imperative to be part of a "group" or ministry in addition to going to church, but I will say that when I was going to Bible Study twice a week and mid-week worship service AND church on Sunday that was the time in my life that I could clearly hear from God. I was not a member of the church I attended at that time, so I didn't usher or sing in the choir and I wasn't part of the ministry that was on my college campus. I just made it a point to be under the Word if I wasn't studying or working.
B/c I am new to my Christian experience I find myself in church alot.
Attend Sunday service, bible study and I take new member courses for the about a month and then I will exchange that for Sunday school.
I am a member of the dance ministry, drama ministry and new member ministry.
I enjoy every bit of it! I love feeling renewed and joyful. I am so THANKFUL and I love learning about the love of God. I literally feel it when I dance or while in bible study. I surround my life around church rather the other way around.
I am doing all this because this is my third attempt to regain my faith and walk a Godly path. I am sick of half stepping and expecting for everything to be ok. My life was falling apart and everyone around me had turned their backs. Once again I looked to God for support. I figured that would be my last time having to "run back" to God for help b/c I will never leave him again.
"Ministry" is living out God's Word, as part of the Great Commission to spread the Gospel, with us making up the Church. Regular church going may or may not be a part of it, as the assembly is the people not the building. There are believers who assemble in their homes and others who travel on missionaries...they are church. They bring church with them. Jesus went to church synagogues but his life was his ministry ... extending beyond the "church building".
God won't send us to battle ill-equipped. If it's a certain cause God lays on someone's heart (He always provides the Gifts to carry out the mission), like the youth ministry, ushering or marriage ministry, etc., we're always happy to do it. Because we are in our calling, we won't see it as a "burden" because it's being done in obedience and to please God AND He gives us the grace to do so ANYWHERE, not just at church. I do know we can get caught up with church culture or being "churchified" to the point of religiosity or people-pleasing, which can keep us from hearing from God or get distracted. Still, there are people who go to church 3-4 times a week and grow up powerfully in ministry. There are those who go that many times and won't grow at all. Same person they were when they started going choich 15 years ago. It's a personal relationship with God that makes that clear distinction.
Conversly, we can run from ministry or from what we are called to do ...like Jonah ...
