Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

*Long post ahead*

I may give up shampoo for a long while!

I had to figure something out two weeks ago my new growth at 4 weeks was so rough (there is a lot of it...thanks to Surge)I used my flat iron twice! And that is a big no no!

I finally got into the condition washes and coconut milk and yes coconut oil as well....with great results. My new growth is a lot more manageable at this 6 week mark then the last time I was at this point which was around the first week in June.

On Sunday I mixed half a can of Goya Coconut milk with a good amount of oil (My head was saturated)...slapped on a plastic cap and sat under the dryer for about 10 minutes.

This smells SOOOOO good! The combination of the coconut oil and milk together will drive you crazy.

Then I con washed for some reason I decided to skip the poo just to see how it would work....and last I deep conditined with my UBH conditioner. After I rinsed the conditioner out...I gently toweled dried (pressing not rubbing roughly) used a combination of UBH cream mositurizer (just a dab) a little serum and a bit of coconut oil. I don't use a great deal of any of them let's say an amount between the size of a dime and a quarter for each. Then I parted my hair in four sections and did four fat braids and rolled the ends with a skinny flexi rod. My braid out came out the best it every has! My BF was like wow! People in the street were like wow! Soft and shiny and the curls were very defined...I'll be taking pics soon.

Anyway, since that day I have been doing a daily CO wash...just using plain conditoner and then I follow the steps I listed above. I think I will do the coconut milk and oil pre-treatment, con wash and deep condition once a week.

So far so good....I have a large fan in my room so my hair dries by morning....what I'll do in the winter I don't know but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I going to try to wash with poo once a week or even less....maybe if I start seeig buildup at some point I will use a clarifying shampoo as needed.

Anyone else skipping the poo?

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

Your new regiment is nearly the same as mine. I CO wash every other day and do my shampoo/deep conditioning 1x/wk. I am doing daily twist outs and Surge 2x/day. So, my hair looks so shiny and healthy. I have gotten a lot of compliments. I use baking soda and water every 2 wks for my clarifying rinse.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I don't use any poo at all! The last time I did, my hair shedded so much, I must have lost like 500 strands of hair- no lie! I'm surprised I still have hair on my head. For some reason, shampoo mats my natural hair to bits. When I do conditioner washes and deep conditioner rinses, Ilode about maybe 8 strands of hair. And for some reason, my hair does not build up or get that dirty, don't know why...

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I put the shampoo on my hair and scalp when its dry and then rinse it out in the shower. This way, the shampoo doesn't dry my hair out as much.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

Wow Falon that is awesome!!! I'd like to try that but I worry about my hair not being completely dry in the morning. I wouldn't be able to wash it till late evening when I get home from work. It's at your length but not as thick.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I only use shampoo when I texturize. I don't have any shampoo except neutralizing shampoo. I had a 1 liter bottle of Elucence Moisture Benefits shampoo that I gave to my niece a few months ago. In december it will be 2 years since I've used shampoo to wash my hair.

CurlyCurly your hair is the bomb! Beautiful curls.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I still use poos, but I'm seriously thinking about stretching out the duration of time between each poo wash...

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

For those who don't use shampoos, do the conditioners or something keep your hair clean??? If not, how do you keep your hair clean, especially if you use oils or other products on your hair??? And what about buildup??? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I use shampoo, but only on my scalp and roots, never on the entire length of my hair.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I use organic shampoo powders. I posted to the thread about being lazy. check it out and read my Maintenance regime. Bonjour

[/ QUOTE ]The conditioner can cleanse the hair and scalp...I prefer the cheaper ones for this. My hair nearly squeaks during the second rinse! If I need to clarify, I use a herbal ACV rinse. I do have a shampoo bar I like, but I do not need to use it.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

This is an interesting thread... /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif. Dreems, I went to the link you attached and it really helped me understand the whole conditioner wash concept better /images/graemlins/smile.gif. I've tried it before and it didn't quite come out as good as I had expected and now I understand why. I am going to try this again since I'm transitioning and I need as much moisture as I can get to prevent breakage.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I love co washes my hair comes out so soft and moisturized. I only use poo once a week or less.

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I'm still shampooing every 2 weeks with no pooing every 3-4 days, but I plan to wean myself down to the no poo method exclusively /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Since I will start co-washing again, I might have to try this when I use shampoo to see if I notice a difference with my entire hair. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I have been trying this method for a full two weeks, Shampooing scalp only, in hopes that it makes a difference on my ends. I still see several splits and hexagon looking ends.

mrslee, which shampoo did you use?

also, have u trimmed you ends recently? If not, that could be why you still see split ends. Co-washes will not fix split ends. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Giving up Shampoo? Who doesn\'t use POO?

I use CON and M/T. I have had a small trim done and I am constantly dusting my ends. I think I may need to cut about 2" and start from there. I may have had severe damage and need to quit fighting with it. Although it doesnt look bad, but when I look at each strand up close, they drive me crazy!
