Giving up msm now sadly.......

I have decided at least for a while that I have to give up msm becuz it has been causing me to lose weight and an inability to gain it back. It took i think 5 lbs off me and though I am no where near underweight I just somehow didnt feel like myself, I know my body very well and no matter what i ate I couldnt put it back on!, well in just a few of days of reducing and or skipping the msm i have gained about 2 lbs back,, its freaky,, anyone had this prob with msm and unwanted or wanted weightloss??

Are you sure it's the MSM?! I've been taking it a few months and haven't noticed this side effect.

Okay, this is freaking me out! I just started taking MSM last week but I may need to stop immediately! I'm already thin. I cannot afford to lose any weight or else I could end up looking like one of those young starving celebs.

Ladies, MSM does NOT make you lose weight.
The only thing that effects your weight is calories in v. calories out.
Please do not be misinformed.
If you see this side effect, you may want to analyze other aspects of your lifestyle.

many things besides calories can affect weightloss/gain...lots of prescription medications do so i would think MSM in higher levels could have the same effect.

Wow, sorry to hear you lost weight, what brand did you use? I need to go out and purchase yours I am trying to lose.

hmm msm made me spotty but gave me an appetite (as all my vits do) bitoin and multi vits make me greedy and i love it cos i' mtryin 2 gain :-)

i stopped msm cos of the acne it gave me

I think (this is just a theory) that you have lost weight/and are not able to put it back on because your losing toxins/water retention or something (hence why when you stop taking it you gain weight again), it may also be [assing parasites and what not aswell. Sorry if it sounds a bit muddled

msm also caused me strange spotting around my period and worsened my pms. IT IS possible for MSM to cause weight loss IF it is speeding up your metabolism which it may be, since I know some ppl have complained of feelings of restlessness and even sweating from it. I can only speak for myself and I feel I may have lost weight and a few other symptoms such as spotting and more severe pms. I may continue in a lower dosage once im totally comfortable with my weight, ( im still owed 2 more lbs lol, i know im a crazy reverse anorexic) and then I'll see how that goes , I was using Natures way OptiMSM, OptiMSM is potent high quality msm.

NUTRASYSTEM from December until now helped with portion control. I used to be a size 18, now nearly size 8. NS, is not magic but helped me learn correct portions, also that starvation is not the way, the benefits of water and vitamins. I think the water intake may be a reason for weight loss. I do remember during my research on MSM {or was it the BIOTIN?} that it helps weight loss. Exercise?:creatures I used to exercise more before starting NS. I wanted to see if it really worked so stopped exercising to see.....how foolish I was 'cause I never thought NUTRISYSTEM was going to work but it surely did! Ladies, those commercials are for real. Hardly exercise now but really need to...body needs tightening up. My stationary bike and elliptical look a bit dusty too.

She's taking about Nutrisystem a weightloss program where they deliver a months' supply of food to your door. I think it cost like 290 to 300 dollars a month.

Medications MAY have an impact on water retention, but as far as losing/gaining actual FAT, it will not. Storing fat is a function of pathways that convert CHO, PRO, ALCOHOL, FAT into adipose tissue. Medications cannot do this. MSM may contribute to your breakouts, skin issues, and even sweating, but even if it stimulates activity at the cellular level, it wont be significant enough to burn 3500 kcals, 5 times. (losing 5 lbs.)
In the end, only you can decide whether or not to take it.

it acted as a diuretic with me so it may be making you lose water weight. athletes can drop like 5-10 lbs in a couple of days just from sweating and emptying their systems, basically getting rid of all the water in their system.

ok forgive me, i'm still learning but what is MSM, that all you ladies are talking about. what does that stand for? and what does it do for you?

methylsulfonylmethane. I don't think this would cause anyone to lose weight. Biotin, however, may because it assists your metabolism.

OT: I love your hair in your avatar pic!!

My other vitamins help me control my appetite. MSM didn't tho. But, when I take more than 1,000mg/day, it does give me terrible menstrual cramps. :(

Sorry Raven. I, never intended to confuse. I, extrapolated from various postings which expressed the desire to have the 'problem' of losing weight due to MSM. I, was offering a method of weight loss which worked for me. The threaded conversational tone doesn't always translate with the threaded written word.

Wow I had the opposite reaction....the month before last I had slacked up on taking my MSM, my pms was off the hook and I had cramps for the first time since giving birth to my daughter  I started taking my MSM religiously again and when it was time for my period to come back on it snuck up on a sista  I had no symptoms what so ever...

It was just probably water weight :) . Water will follow the toxins out of your cells.
