Anyone out there putting their vitamins and supplements in the blender and making a smoothie? I know we all take a boat load of stuff, I swallow mine 5 or so at a time, but have been contemplating tossing them all into my blender.
it does sound like a good idea but too time consuming i like to take my vits early in the morning in two to three gulps and get it over with /images/graemlins/grin.gif
the blender thing worries me cos it might speed up the pharmacokinetics and become more likely to cause side effects. finer granules are absorbed faster i guess.
PK or pharmacokinetics is what your body does to a drug when you take it. 4 steps (ADME): absorption, distribution, metabolism (breaking down) and finally excretion.
Someone asked earlier how the vitamins tasted. They taste AWFUL. When I first started taking I wasn't used to taking those horsepills so I couldn't get it to go down. Well, from being in my mouth for so long it started dissolving on its on. I spit it out and the white coat (I take Ultranourishair) was gone and there was this pale yellow with some other kind of colors /images/graemlins/crazy.gif going on inside, and it got extremely gritty and chalky like. Ugh.
I use hair, skin and nails, vitmins, they seem to be doing the trick but i hate taking those big pills, the look like horse pills and its only 3 a day. /images/graemlins/kisses.gif
I like the theory behind putting pills in a blender. We all need suggestions on how to brighten up the green mile we call swallowing pills! It helps me to put divided batches of pills into ice-makers' square compartments, then set it right on the counter (or in the silverware drawer, if you have to be less conspicuous) so that I take them with each meal. It also helps me eat better!
I have never tried the blender thing was just wondering, because some...well okay most mornings I don't do breakfast, but want to start the day off by getting my vitamins down, so I was considering the idea of sipping on a smoothie on the way to work. I get them down, but uuugghh, some of the pills are torpedos. Thanks for the input. I'll be sure and let you know if I try it. PS. I do understand about the absorption or rather the timing thereof, if its a time release and you blend it you'll probably be getting it all at one time. Didn't think about that. /images/graemlins/fat.gif
