Sometimes you realize everyone is not going to agree about your hair and you have you learn to get over that. I know when i shaved my head everyone said that i was crazy and that it was a faze, even my own mom picks on me constantly changing my hair saying why don't i just get a $5 dollar perm and call it a day. Dawg even if i wanted to perm my hair $5 ain't going to cut it. lol!!! But i'm here to encourage you that there is going to be days when people aren't going to like it, heck you might not even like it, but i stress this..... The satisfication:grin: you get over time is beyond words knowing that your patience :wallbash:and care made your hair to what it is now, hey nobody can take that....let alone deal with that hair of yours or mines. To all the newbees dont give up and to all the experienced keep growing to you reach the floor. And to all the haters who will be always there, thanks for talking about me, it seemed to make my hair grow:grin:

It feels nice to vent huh? I'm glad that you are taking the high road, and staying confident and keeping the hair the way YOU like it.

Thanks, OP. I needed this today cause I seem to be drowning in unsolicited, discouraging remarks from the "sweet lil angels" aka kids I work with. I mean, I know they're just kids but DAYUM. It doesn't help that my darling mother reminds me - almost on the daily basis - that she liked my hair when it was straight. Oh, and the disappearance of hair compliments from others who used to rave about my relaxed hair. *sigh* It's almost been two years, you'd think people would get OVER IT.

Psh!! ( rolling my eyes at the women who disapprove of your hair) Girl, when I shaved my head back in the day, the same people who were making fun of me, upset that I cut my hair off, were the same people who didn't even take care of their own hair....( to this day as we speak) and could never in their little lives pull that move off. I appreciated their honest ( yet drenched with animosity) comments and kindly told them to F*** Off

4bforreal!!!, I completely agree with you. This is my 3rd time going natural and this time I finally feel the way you describe. I just don't seem to care at all what anyone else thinks about MY hair. My dh and daughters love my hair. But everytime I've gone natural I can tell my mother hates it. The first two times I bc'd it hurt a little that she didn't approve of my hair. This time I could care less. I am enjoying my hair more than ever this go round.

Am i the only one that has received nothing but compliments?

I have been relaxed, shaved, SL natural, relaxed again and now long term transitioning all my family, friends, anyone, have nothing but good things to say.

Its sad that even your own Mother would hate to see the natural you or anyway that you choose to wear your hair.

Thats good for you that every one loved your hair.... Im glad it wasnt like that for me because nasty looks and words motivated me to keep going, if the would have liked it i probably would have permed it, thinking now i dont like..,, im kinda backwards i guess:spinning:

Many of those same haters will be openly admiring your hair and trying to get you to help them with theirs in the months/years to come...

ITA Bublin. One would think our mothers would love our hair the most... But everyone is not enlightened, many of our mothers grew up in a time where kinky natural hair was feared and hated, in a time when people openly talked about good hair and bad hair and even "grades" of hair, etc. I have talked till I'm blue in the face, for some it's just engrained.

My mother literally adores just about everything else about me, is such a big fan of mine, so that is why her disapproval hurt at first. She never speaks badly about my hair though but she never says anything good either when I've been natural, just kind of ignores it and only oohs and ahhs when I sraightened it and was excited when I returned to relaxing. This time I plan to straighten a lot less and this time only for me, not to please her.

When I first shaved my hair years ago I got both compliments and insults. And yes it's true that when they start seeing your progress and they want some of that progress for themselves and decided to do what it takes to get there, they will have to go through the same nonsense they put you through.
