I just bought this along with the sleek and shine dc masque..I'll be using this weekend and updating with my thoughts! Anyone else try this yet??

It kinda reminds me of the mizani thermasmooth system with a little less product and much cheaper.

My sister uses the Garnier. She likes it but thats because it smells good and tames her frizz. She could care less about the health of her hair and btw shes MBL.

^^tames frizz..??? this is probably going to be perfect for me. Which products does she use???

She uses either the garnier blow dry perfecter or the garnier sleek and shine smoothing milk. She likes them both. After she seals with whatever she feels like at the moment usually jojoba oil, Moroccan oil, or the organix shea butter smoothing serum. I would type her hair as 3c. Oh she also loves that Neutrogena leave in stuff. Shes not afraid to slather the products on her hair

i was thinking about getting the smoothing milk..but I wasn't sure. sigh i guess i'll go ahead and get that too..and the serum..=)

Let us know how it goes! I saw this in Walmart yesterday and from the pkg it didn't look like it was reco'd for any hair below 3a. So it would be nice to see your results.

I started to pick this up in Ulta, but the side of the package says do not use on relaxed hair. I'm transitioning without a BC so I'm too scary to try it now. I'm anxious to hear reviews though!

I was just gonna say I'm going to have to take this back becuz it says not to use on relaxed hair..I'm just going to pick up the rest of the sleek and shine line instead..

Say what? Looks like I will take this off my wish list. What exactly are in the ingredients that it would not be compatible?

I have been looking all over the innanet trying to find reviews about this product particularly for 4 type heads.

Will be waiting to see what you have to say about it. :yep:

If anyone is looking for it I saw it at WalMart for $10.00. The first piece of information on it says don't use it if your hair has been relaxed or damaged by a chemical process and I think you have to wait so many days after you have put color, bleached or a perm in your hair. It was interesting it mentioned relaxed hair don't use but permed hair after a certain amount of days it is okay to use.

I was trying to find out what Thol is and cysteine (sp?) OP can you confirm that there are also gloves in the package?

Please come back and let us know how it goes.

Thank you!!

UH OH!!!!!!:look: The 3rd ingredient on the List

Ethanolamine - is used in several ( most ) relaxers........

I won't take the chance...:nono::nono: Google "Ethanolamine in relaxers" - and you will find quite a list.......Keep in mind that the 1st 5 ingredients make up most of a product..... So I am only looking at the 1st five...

Thank you so much for this information. When I first heard about this product I was interested but it has too many warnings listed.

I have been doing searches on this product and was looking for reviews... I read the posts and I wanted to do a little PSA...well actually a long one

Ladies lets not all freak out over the ingrediants...... Ethanolamine is a weak base but it does not work like a relaxer....Im not saying it is the healthiest thing but definately not a relaxer!

Now I did a little research and here is what I gathered, and I will add that I recieved and degree in Biology and and working on a masters in bio so I know a thing or 2 bout chemicals and da body!

Okay so heres the skinny:

Why is it used? http://www.cosmeticsinfo.org/ingredient_details.php?ingredient_id=1069

Why is it used in cosmetics and personal care products?
Acetamide MEA increases the water content of the top layers of the skin by drawing moisture from the surrounding air. It also enhances the appearance and feel of hair, by increasing hair body, suppleness, or sheen, or by improving the texture of hair that has been damaged physically or by chemical treatment.

commonly it is used as a substitue for Ammonia in hair dye that claim to be "ammonia free"

products that contain MEA or Ethanolamine:
facial moisturizers/treatments
shampoos/conditioners
hair care/coloring agents
hair relaxers
permanent wave lotions
deodorants
bubble bath
lipsticks
hairspray
lotions/creams
foundations
fragrances
nail polish/polish remover
cuticle softeners/removers
athlete’s foot treatment
around-eye cream
anti-aging cream
sunscreen: SPF 15-30
anti-fungal treatment

That is the simple answer but the nerd in me need to find out the why behind it all! :yep:

Here is a snippet from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanolamine

Ethanolamine, also called 2-aminoethanol or monoethanolamine (often abbreviated as ETA or MEA), is an organic chemical compound that is both a primary amine (due to an amino group in its molecule) and a primary alcohol (due to a hydroxyl group). Like other amines, monoethanolamine acts as a weak base. Ethanolamine is a toxic, flammable, corrosive, colorless, viscous liquid with an odor similar to that of ammonia.

out of all that technical mumbo jumbo what you should notice is the abbreviations. MEA or ETA.

This is an abbreviation you see used in products that are heat activated....Think thermasilk (and ladies use thermasilk product all the time) I know I use the shampoo B4 I heat style and I havent had "relaxed" hair yet

Now why is MEA used???

it is a pH-control amine (fancy work for weak base)

Ethanolamine is often used for alkalinization of water in steam cycles of power plants, including nuclear power plants with pressurized water reactors. This alkalinization is performed to control corrosion of metal components. ETA (or sometimes a similar organic amine, e.g., morpholine) is selected because it does not accumulate in steam generators (boilers) and crevices due to its volatility, but rather distributes relatively uniformly throughout the entire steam cycle. In such application, ETA is a key ingredient of so-called "all-volatile treatment" of water (AVT).

so from all that blah blah blah read
1) this product balances PH....much like how products use Sodium Hydroxide to balance PH... ie Neutrogena tripple moisture leave- in

2)@ the bolded.... This shows that the product works well when heat is added. The molecules of MEA stay the same when exposed to high heat (steam= high heat) this is why it is chosen for heat activated products.

Now if you want to avoid using this product please do!! I know I will probably never let it touch my precious locks :lachen: But just ensure that you are well correctly stating how a product works before we equate it to a relaxer and burn it at the steak lol :gotroasted:

With allllllll of that said.... if you are serious about "organic haircare" avoid this...... if not....give it a try and post a review.....and lots and lots of pichas!!!

I just brought this yesterday. Im kinda nervous about using it because I couldn't find not one review on this from a person that has hair like mine. could be because it's so new :ohwell:
i'll try it tonight and post my review... oh lord please don't let my hair fall out. :freakout:
I tried the softliss bkt but that didn't work on my. don't know why but hopefully this will work. I'll post before and afters. PRAY FOR ME AND MY HAIR :pullhair: lol

Thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking of purchasing it, but then I got a bit scared. I still can't purchase because I have relaxed hair and I'm transitioning, but when I'm natural, yeah sure. :look:

BTW, that won't be until next year.

So...:look:

I just saw this in the Ulta booklet they sent me in the mail with a coupon and I am glad I read the info 1st.. I am also transitioning and don't want to use anything to mess that up.. Thanks for the info ladies.. Mark that off my lit...

sorry for the long wait guys. i honestly thought i lost my camera  ...
oh well here it goes....

This is all "MY" opinion. if someone else gets different results please post them too so that I may know (and others) what method u used verses what I used to achieve desired results. I could not find ANYONE with my hair type ( I think mostly 4b with some 4a in the back) to compare results with so i guess i'm glad to be the first and prayerfully not the last lol.

This two step process was actually easy with some drawbacks. Easy meaning that applying it wasn't as messy because i used an applicator brush and my own gloves to help apply it better.
100_4056.jpg

I washed my hair using Giovanni 50:50 balanced hydrating-clarifying shampoo (NO CONDITIONER PER INSTRUCTION). I then used a shirt to dry my hair.
Hair before detangle
100_4000.jpg

This process is timed which is a draw back in my opinion because my hair is very kinky coily so it's not that easy for me to quickly part my hair at times. After I detangled my hair I sectioned my hair into four sections like a "t"
Hair detangled using denmen brush
100_4033.jpg

Hair parted in 4 sections

100_4036-1.jpg

To make the process easier to apply I squeezed some of the 20-min smooth-it into a bowl. (((THIS STUFF STINKS))) It sorta has a mild chemical scent. I almost quit before I even got started :lachen:... oh well...
I started in the back and applied it section by section. when I was done with one section I took some product with my fingers and applied it to my ends then I got my wide tooth comb, combed that section to distribute the product thoroughly and clipped that section out of the way to move on to the next section. when I was done applying it to my whole head I took my wide tooth comb one more time and combed all my hair going back and placed my hair in a low pony. I actually finished my WHOLE head in less than 10 mins ( that's how fast I was rushing lol)
100_4037.jpg

The instruction says to leave in the 20 min smooth-it for 30 min for thick or resistant hair (my hair is both) so I set my timer for 30 min and covered my hair with a shower cap so that the product wouldn't dry out. After 30 min I rinsed my hair in the shower with warm water (NO SHAMPOO). I definately noticed that my hair was less bulky and my hair hung a bit (I guess it hung from it being less bulky) it was also easier to glid the comb through my hair.
100_4040.jpg

(i know someones gonna say it's because my hair was in a ponytail so let me first say that even if my hair is in a stretched style like a pony for a long time it will still draw up and bulk up no matter what, this is MY hair so I should know lol)

Next I applied the perfect-it cream section by section and blow dried each section. I can honestly say that I did notice that my hair blow dried faster than normal. usually I would have to re-wet a section that air dried just to be able to blow dry it cause it takes me such a long time but this time I finished blow drying my hair in half the time.
100_4043.jpg

I then followed with my flat iron
100_4019.jpg

100_4016.jpg

hair placed into a pony using banana clip
100_4014.jpg

I wraped my hair up and tied it down for bed. Another drawback was that the next day my roots started to revert when I went out into the hot sun. I did not want to use anymore flat iron heat so the following day I CO-washed my hair. I noticed that it was still less bulky but that was it.. it didn't look any different than it normally did. the feel of it wasn't as soft as the first day (prob because the product was fresh on my hair that first day). It did, however, blow dry fast again. which is kinda what the title says "BLOW DRY PERFECTOR" lol.. After doing all this I still have some product left in both tubes but i don't know if i'll do this again.
I won't be doing an update for a LONG time because i'm weaved up for summer but hopefully someone else would post their results so that we can all compare and contrast.
100_4049.jpg

Pros

-- I was able to blow dry my hair in half the time it normally takes me which is a plus for some one that mostly wears their hair straight ( I don't wear my hair straight alot though :nono:))
-- My hair felt softer
-- less bulky
-- was elongated a bit
Cons
-- IT STINKS... smelled like a chemical ( the smell didn't stay on my hair after i rinsed though)
-- doesn't change the curl pattern or soften it so it's def not comparable to the BKT
-- seems to only benefit those that wear mostly straight styles and want to dry their hair in less time.
-- softness didn't last

I hope my review has helped someone in their decision making. Good luck and happy growing :spinning:
