Gains And Losses In A Marriage

knowing different aspect of yourself
Education of life way beyond things I knew

So many good things up thread but these two really stood out...
Because of the close one on one in your face nature of marriage (where you gon go nah?) and the fact that opposites do attract by design, learning about my less than stellar parts and making decisions on how I would deal with the knowledge of me was huge. I had to learn to appreciate all of the differences between us and eventually realized over time that I needed some of what was different from him (and thus initially irritating) in my life and he needed some of what I brought to the table too. I had to learn to not be offended by those differences and not to take every difference as an affront to "me" personally. I had to be able to step back and see the type of balance that was achieved once I did not let my emotions get the best of me. It's a beautiful thing too. I truly value SO's input and opinions and I feel extremely valued by him. We regularly vocalize and show appreciation for those differences that we once thought would be the end of us.

BTW, I am divorced but in a serious marriage minded relationship at this time.
