Try not to make fun of me too much for this, but last week, I was in Beijing, and the unthinkable happened--i ran out of moisturizer. 4b natural hair + no moisturizer + no comprehension of Chinese = :perplexed: Then it hit me! I still had some mayo left over from dinner at Subway. So i ran to the bathroom, dampened my hair, and used the mayo as a leave in for a twist out :lachen: It didn't turn out spectacular, but it did save me from looking like someone from the jungle. sooo i thought it would be fun to do a thread where we share tips to save each other from these types of unnecessary fiascos this spring.

Simply post your single most important tip for spring hair care for naturals below. I'll go through and select tips that most people think are simply off the chain (since this is a democracy, we'll go by posts with multiple thanks) and add your username and tip to this post for all to see (we all know nobody reads past the first page anyway )

My Top Tip for Spring Hair Care:
Buy a beanie and carry it everywhere with you! If you have hair like mine, rain is not your friend. Your twistout will morph into a tangled fro with a quickness. If you have a cute beanie like this one i just picked up from Target today, you can save yourself a whole heckova lot of trouble :yep: your turn :arrowright:

A few of the Fab Tips Shared so Far: (thanks ladies )
Product-related
:arrowright: Egyptjones: Hust Haves for Car: Larger jar of Ecostyler gel, black scarf to tie my hair down and a boar bristle brush. With these items, you can conquer just about any hair emergency!

Styling-related
:arrowright: darlingdiva: Carry some Goody Spin pins, bobby pins, or some type of hair clip at all times. If humidity or rain results in excessive poof and/or frizz, you can always create a fabulous pin-up.

:arrowright: cherryhair123: Don't be afraid to rewet your hair in the bathroom in an emergency-(for most) it "reactivates" the product or at least gives you a chance to make it back home with decent looking hair

this is a great thread! I agree with the bobby pins idea.. it's amazing what a pin here and there will do for a hairstyle gone wrong.

Must Haves for Purse: Black cloth or elastic headband, good hair day pins, a small container of Ecostyler gel and coconut oil (I put them in old hand lotion bottles)

Use the hotel conditioners and/or lotions mixed with a little water as leave-ins when traveling.

newgrowth15 if you don't mind my asking, what hotel chain do you normally stay at when you travel? hotel conditioners and lotions dry me out like crazy. not sure if it's just me or the products really aren't that great

Egyptjones i love this idea! just out of curiosity, do you store the car items in your block compartment or the trunk?

A push comb, lotion/vaseline and a toothbrush saves me every time. Thank God that these are things that I normally have in my purse. If I have my hair down (roller set or blow dried) and it poofs, usually it's only certain sections in the middle. So I wet the edges and poofy part (water from the bathroom), slick the edges with a travel toothbrush and vaseline or lotion and make a little roll with the hair.

If the whole thing goes shazam, I wet my entire head, slick the edges as described above and make a french roll from the bottom or gather it low at the nape of the neck and twist, twist, twist until it starts to curl into a bun.

godzchildtoo that bolded part got me rolling :lachen: i know that feeling all too well

In my desk drawer at work I have a small makeup bag with an empty travel size water spritz bottle, some curls goddess gel, some goody ouchless elastics, and some ouchless headbands...that has saved me on bad weather days or those days when I tried a new product or technique that did not work for me!

I don't go anywhere without a spare ouchless goody hair band! it comes in handy for all those times when my WnG, twistout / braidout, or rollerset goes haywire :giggle:

On my last trip, I stayed at the Westin in Toronto. I never use hotel shampoo--it's way too drying, but the lotions and conditioners are okay. I mixed the conditioner with a little water in the palm of my hand and then applied it to my hair. I made my own braid spray with GVP brand Infusium 23 and Proclaim Argan Oil. After I applied the conditioner, I applied my homemade braid spray and my hair looked and felt very moisturized.
