From lye to no lye, back to lye?

I was a staunch lye user, until my stylist used Affirm sensitive, which is no lye, without my knowledge. I;ve used it for my past 2 touch ups, which have been ok. But I'm just not 100% comfortable using no lye, would it be safe to switch back to a lye relaxer?

I don't know what to tell you girl. I went with lye after years of being natural because I heard it was better for my hair and so far it has been. It doesn't feel brittle and my hair isn't turning brownish red. But truth be told I'm not sure if that's because I'm not abusing the chemicals and heat anymore so my hair is better overall.
Have you personally noticed a difference?

My roots are straight, but don't feel silky like with a lye relaxer, but I don't know it this is just my imagination. I am confused now.
