How often do you wash your hair? And when you sleep on it, how do you preserve your curls? I have type 3a. When I wash and go through my routine with conditioners, leave-ins and serums, it looks fine, the problem is when I go to bed at night, the curls don't hold up in the morning. I sleep with a high pony tail in a satin cap but the curls still sort of die

Should I re-wet it and add more leave in? When I do this, it sometimes gets too crunchy and dosen't move well. Then I wash again too soon I think. This is why I often give up and pull out the dreaded blowdyer

Also what products are good to maintain curl? I've tried soo many that leave my hair flaky and stiff. TIA!

I'm a type 4 so keeping curls through the night is impossible. I have to re-wet it and condition wash my hair every morning.

Have you tried twisting your hair at night?

Rarely do my curls look good the next day. I have to start over fresh each morning with a CW.

What products have you tried to enhance your curls?

I use Nexxus shampoo and conditioners, NTM leave in cream and the serum, aveda leave in elixir and sometimes I spray a little diluted infusium on my hair for my wash and go styles. What is a CW?

And what is a good one to try.

I conditioner wash (CW) in the morning instead of at night..If I do it at nite, my hair is smashed by the morning time.

Yeah, I re-wet mine too. I don't think I know any curlies who don't start all over again in the morning!

So often do you ladies wash your hair? I have read that curly hair shouldn't be washed that often.

And what is a conditioner wash? Is this a product or a routine? I feel like this might be a silly

question but I've seen it on this board before and I'm a newbie. Thanks for your help ladies!

I wash my hair like every-other-day when I'm wearing the wash-and-go style. I use Suave Milk & Honey shampoo and conditioner. I normally wouldn't wash that much, but this stuff makes my hair feel soooo soft and silky that I can't help it!

When you see "conditioner wash"--that just means "washing" the hair with conditioner instead of shampoo...

If my hair isn't in twists, I conditioner wash daily (in the morning) because at night my hair gets smooshed if it's left out.

So do I. I spray my new growth with a mixture of water, glycerin and conditioner.

I'm not sure of my hair type but I wash maybe everythree days and sleep with a satin bonnet and my curls/coils usually last and I may spray my hair with water or herbal rinse in the morning

I'm a 4 and when my hair is in a fro i have to re wet it or my hair looks like a brillo pad. I only do daily washes when i am experimenting with new gel or gel concoctions. I rewet in the morning and apply Aura Elixir (it isn't discontinued, Sally's just doesn't sell it anymore). Sometimes I just re wet to get the look again because sometimes i don't rinse my conditioner so i just rewet with water which turns the conditiner white again and go. the conditioner disappears once it is dry again. I have learned not to be heavyhanded that way i dont get balls of conditioner that don't disappear
*******Major Curl Definition Alert******
I mixed my Walmart version of Pantene Conditioner (Green label and words)with some coconut oil and Soft and Beautiful Botanical oil and left it in and combed it through and got good definition.
I tried to use the Curve technique of blowdrying but did not get the same anti shrinkage effect that they got.

I have 3a/b hair and sometimes trying to keep the curl intact is virtually impossible, especially at night. I agree with all the girls who responded about doing conditioner washes daily, as well as re-wetting the hair. My suggestions are very easy for curl definition. Try braiding your hair in plaits at night, and sleeping with a silk or satin scarf. In the morning, take down the braids and apply a little amount of gel curl activator to the curls. Finger comb the curls into separate ringlets. This will give the look of a jherri curl, because your natural curls will be more defined with less shrinkage.

I've done something like this when I was natural, and people comment on my hair because of the way my curls look and behave. The key is curl activator for that natural curly style.

my curls never last through the next day i have to re-wet with a spritz or condition wash. once hair is damp i use aveda elixir leave in conditioner and john frieda frizz ease/ dream curls. The trick is putting moisture back into your hair.

this is exactly why i wear twists! i get the same effect without having to rewet each day.

I tried the CW and that worked great! I just have to get up earlier in the mornings to allow time for it to dry a little my hair takes a long time to dry. Thanks Ladies!
