For those who use Clairol Luminize, I have a few questions....

I've used Luminize once...about 2 years ago and loved it. I kept it on for the recommended 10 Minutes and it didn't lighten my hair enough. I've been reading that you should actually leave it on for 20-25 minutes and it'll be fine.

Please give me your opinions, tips, etc. on this product. Also what base do you use with the developer? Clear, Gold, Ash or Red? If possible post pics!! Thanks!:drunk:

I know Pookie tried Luminize many times with success; she used the clear. I tried it before as well and used clear, but since I used it only once, it was very subtle and I also only left it for 10 mins as instructed.

This is long........sorry......:perplexed

I’ve used the clear kit on the top of my head and then applied a Sebastian Cellophane (Red). I did a stand test before applying it and I came up with a time frame of 15 mins to be on the safe side (this was the first time I tried it, so I didn’t want to mess it up).

I was looking for a multidimensional hair color (lighter on top & darker at the bottom) so I only wanted a couple of shades lighter so I could still manage my new growth actual color if I decided not to do it again. After 15 mins, it was not so noticeable on my length because I’ve always used cellophane after my relaxers and even though the color fades, I still had a pretty strong red base to strip before I could see the real difference. But, let me tell you……..those 2 or 3 extra minutes that went by while getting ready to rinse made the difference in my roots, they were soooooo much more lighter :yep: (more like auburn),…….and when I applied the red cellophane it looked so pretty. I haven’t done it again (this was 6 months ago) but I know I will, probably after the summer. So, long story short, here are my recommendations:

1. You probably already know this but give yourself 2 WEEKS after your relaxer for the application.

2. Do a stand test and check to come up with a more accurate time.

3. Consider you actual hair color (rinse, semi-perm, perm, or natural) to come up with a true match/close enough to the color you want to achieve.

4. If you’re doing your whole head and you hair is NOT virgin (I mean color wise) then apply the product at your length first, and work you way to the top. You don’t want to treat your dyed length and your new growth with the same time because you’ll end up with “hot roots” (3 or 4 shades lighter than the rest of the hair).

5. Once you know the time, make sure you have everything set up to rinse as soon as your time is up, if not, cut back 2 or 3 mins of your processing time so you don’t over process.

I don’t have a pic of the exact day I did this, but this is how my hair looks now indoors and outdoors. I owe the lightest layers to this product………. have others in my fotki as well:

OMG, beautiful! Thanks so much for the information!! I really can't wait to go home and do it tonight. I'm BSL - transitioning texlaxed with about 2-3 inches of relaxed hair to go.

DING!

I totally did this last week. Luckily I'm a bit of a weirdo anyway so it blends right in. :)

I like the way it looks with a roller set. Actually, it seems to have cooled off a bit. Is that possible? Or am I just getting accustomed to looking at it?

I'd use it again in the future. My hair is SUPER shiny and I've experienced no breakage, dryness or excess shedding.

BUMPING for more responses...and I have an additional question. With repeated use will your hair get lighter each time?
