Floridians Holla/Stylist woes

Hey, anyone know of a good stylist in Orlando, Florida?. I have been here for 6 months and the first place I went to charged me 30 for a relaxer and I think I looked better going in then coming out. She made me pay first and acted like it was my hair's fault that her wack style didn't come out!!! The next stylist I went to talked on the phone while she was washing out my relaxer and then just left me there dripping with nutralizing shampoo to continue her conversation, her shop closed shortly after that. The last girl I went to does a nice job on my relaxer but, everytime I tell her what style I want she says she doesn't like it and does something else. It never looks bad, but I mean you should be able to get what you want, don't you think?

I just want a stylist that isn't going to charge me an arm and a leg when in all likelyhood I'm just going to wash the style out and do my own thing when I get home anyway, conducts consultations, and just makes coming into their salon a positive experience. Help!!!! /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi Camille,

I am getting some stylist information for our other board member named Moni this afternoon from my sis who lives in O-town. My girls hair always looks good, feels good and is in good shape. I'll post the info on this stylist on the Moni page thread and here for you too! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

that will be good to know because i live in Tampa which is just 45 minutes west of Orlando. I will definately be willing to drive there for a good stylist.

hey i live in between saraota and bradenton and i have a stylist who does good relaxers and wraps(if anybody wants the name and # let me know) but i'm looking for a dominican salon.anybody know of one in the tampa bay area?

Hello Camille,
I only know of one and I believe it's called, LaBeach's Hair Salon. Owned and operated by a reputable Christian West Indian woman. ( I forget her first name) It's located on highway 17-92 in Seminole County as you're heading towards Sanford. Her staff is excellent. Hope this helps.

Thank you, any help is well apreciated. Everything else I can do at home, but I don't mess with self relaxing anymore.

are any of you ladies familiar with the lutz/land o'lakes area? there's one there. i'll find out the address if anyone's interested. it's a dominican salon that a friend of mine goes to.

Hey Vitamin, I looked up that salon in the yellow pages and couldn't find it. Are u sure that that is the name of it? Do you have anymore information?

I've been living here in Orlando for 3 years and I have yet to find a great stylist. Right now, I have my hair braided every three months by a local girl in South Orlando. She does a great job and her rates are 60 - 75 dollars depending on what you want. /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

Good Day Camille,
First, I would like to apologize for the late response. I am stationed in Japan working odd hours, I hop on the computer at the earliest time alloted.

My friend says that the name of the salon is called "LaBeach's Unisex Salon." She says it is located on 17-92 before you hit the 434 intersection heading towards Sanford. The owner is from Barbados.

If I may assist you further with this, please don't hesitate /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hope this helps.

Hey camille. I live in Orlando, and totally understand your dilemma. Unfortunately they aren't too many good salons, and the ones that happen to be good are too expensive. It all depends on what styles you like. I go to the hispanic salons or the hair schools. The hispanic salons costs me between $15-$20, for a deep condition and roller set. The hair school charges $10. That fits well into my budget.

Thank You for the tip!

I went to go and see Ms. Labeach today and FYI, she has sold her shop, it is now called hair eXpress. She was nice lady and had all the right answers. The only concerns I has were that all the patrons in the shop were either childrn or older ladies, I don't want to come out of there looking like Sophia from the Golden Girls! She said she is always learning new things, but i don't want her experiementing in my head. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif To me, her prices were actually decent. I just graduated from school and I only had my hair relaxed once by a stylist in my four years there because it just was not in the budget, but, after overprocessing my hair from self-touch ups I decided to braid until I could afford it. I agree most stylists in Orlando are expensive, but she charges 45 for a relaxer, and I think that is reasonable considering that is all I would go to her for. I made an appointment with her for a treatment b/c she said she'd prefer to do that before she perms my hair. That will give me an opportunity to get a feel for how she works. If is doesn't work out, the search is still on.

By the way, I've had a horrible experience with hair schools, can you say curly fro done on Valentine's Day, 3 hours before I was to see my man? Holla! /images/graemlins/blush.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hi Camille, I live in Orlando too. Could you please let me know how your experience was at the salon. I'm getting kind of tired of going all the way home just to get a relaxer. Thanks. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
