I agree-the style is BEAUTIFUL, but $45 is the most I would have paid for a flat twist style (which I KNOW wouldn't last past 2 weeks on my hair). Where do you stay hon? I could've hooked you up $25-30

Very pretty style! Maybe a natural hair salon may be more gentler with doing this hairstyle, but I know that they are not too common in most places.

However, I do not believe all of that detangling is necessary :/... using a fine tooth comb will give a sleeker smoother look. but I find u can get similar results by smoothing with fingers
And from what you described she was uncessarily rough with the comb. I sorry to hear that... but at least your hear looks great! I had to re state that!
for comparison of flat twist with out a lot of detangling here are pics of a flat twist I did into a puff... I did not require any more detangling than usual... but you can see the ... mind you it was self styled (results are better when I do others) but even when I do my friends hair in flat twists I never need a fine tooth comb

I'm sooooo...not interested in compromising ANY strand on my head for temporary good looks and long term damage. NEVER.
You touch on an important point. Perhaps if I communicated to her that I didn't care to have a smooth look, that MIGHT have helped. However, I didn't know the final product could vary using a different size comb. Well...live and learn.

Simply BEAUTIFUL. Unfortunately you can't get that hairstyle for much cheaper in a salon, maybe by someone in their home but your hair is healthy, long, and thick which means it's time consuming so nobody will be willing to do a 2.5 hour hairstyle for $40. But it's gorgeous.

As for the price and the rough handling of your hair and scalp, I think that was scandalous
The price you paid really surprised me. I guess it all depends on where you live, I could have gotten that style done for probably $65 if I go by the African Hair Braiders which is where you get the best price for natural styles here in NYC. Well, the truth is, I would have done this myself knowing me but let's say I was one to go to the salons, thats where I'd go. If you insist on going to get your hair done at salons, you have to really tell them what time it is and establish that you and your hair are not one's to mess with. Don't compromise your astounding progress for the sake of being polite, tell them stylists what time it is when it comes to handling your hair.
I have to reiterate how drop dead gorgeous the style itself is though, soo well done and smooth looking. When I do flat twists in my hair I do it on wet hair for the purpose of doing a flat twist out, so the twists are neat but somewhat fuzzy since they're done wet. Are you natural? How did the stylist get your hair so smooth? Did you blowdry first? Either way, its lovely

This is a gorgeous hairstyle. I'm sooo jealous. It looks GREAT! And yes, I agree, you do have beautiful skin. I'm sorry that this hairstyle came at a price (both literal and figurative) that you've been made to question. I'm wondering why you didn't say anything to the stylist about her ripping through your hair with the comb. That's totally uncalled for and unnecessary; I don't care if that was the tool she had to use for a "smooth" style. A quality stylist, in my opinion at least, should always seem concerned about your comfort and ensure that it's part of your experience in the salon. She did a great job, though.
Regarding the price...it is what it is. You have a lot of length (that you've worked hard for and it shows!) and stylists are not going to charge you a small amount to handle it.
Anyway, hope you don't have breakage....

How do you flat twists the back of your own head?
OP - it's been said. Beautiful, expensive, take command in salons if it appears that they're doing something damaging or you'll be kicking yourself during your 6 mos. - year setback period.

At one point, she went to get a large tooth comb but used it a couple of times and went right back to the small tooth comb!
I hope I don't have too much unnecessary breakage
Also I totally understand your pain. Although not natural yet, when I went in for a wash a couple weeks ago my stylist also used a small tooth comb. It was kinda different since I'm not used to detangling that way. Next time I'm just gonna go in already washed and detangled and let her style from there. I can't do that again...

I hate seeing us getting overcharged for styles. It really pisses me off. I guess location and demographics matter.
My old stylist did this for me for $35 including my normal wash. After washing, she asked what kind of style do you want and as long as I had my pack or two of 99 cent hair to twist it, she did it.
I could go no longer than a week to a week and half though after i had the urge to wash it out. Looks good!

You have some smooth hair because I dont think they'd be able to get my flat twists that smooth without using heat on my hair first, plus your edges came out sooooo neat, mine never do when I do flat twists. I really hope you put your foot down next time.....your hair is too pretty to let some "stylist" screw up the progress.
