Flat-Iron Help (pics)

1.I shampooed and dc my hair today.
2. I let my hair air dry and I detangled it.
3. I decided to put no products in my hair b/c I thought it would weigh it down.
4. Flat-ironed my hair and I end up w/ this mess.

My roots are still puffy(I think my new-growth is resistant to heat) and my hair is not sleek.

How do you achieve salon quality flat-ironed hair at home? Is it products or technique? I need help. I can't show up to church tomorrow like this.

:lachen:Sorry, I can't really help you, but just wanted to share your pain, I end up with the same mess as well whenever I try to flatiron:lachen:Pls somebody help us:grin:

gorgeous!!!!!

i'd DEF. rock that to church!

questions:
1. what heat setting is your flat iron on?
2. are you using serum?
3. how big is your iron? to get my roots straight, i use a 1" iron. anything bigger, and i couldn't really hit the roots right.

what helps me is to use really tiny sections; no more than an inch wide. and using a bit of serum on each section helps, too.

maybe the lack of products only fried your hair? you really shouldn't have went without some kind of heat protectant. there are light ones you can use. if you're worried about them weighing your hair down, you can apply your leave-ins, maybe sit under a dryer for 30 minutes, and then flat iron? just my thoughts. :yep:

and maybe you could've used a little heat? i was just reading a thread where a few ladies said their hair ended up crunchy and tangled after flat-ironing on air-dried hair.

i hope this helps in some little way. i'm sure the experts will be in here soon.

Hey, I am sorry your hair did not turn out as well as you would have wanted it to. I don't know how to post a link but a member here has a good toutorial (sp) on how to flat iron. Go to members list and find Patchouli85.

She is really good.

Oh my damn!! You have to put a warning in your title :lachen::lachen::lachen:

Thats some big hurr right thurr!!!

Hmmm, what setting did you use on the flat iron? Maybe the airdrying route is not for you. Maybe you can wrap it and in the mornng it will be sleeker???

Mine is a 1"

Thank you for the compliment

You might want to try to either rollerset or blowdry with comb attachment, then flat iron. It's got to be somewhat straight and detangled for it to come out smooth. That's my experience with it anyway.:yep: BTW, love the volume and length of your hair! It's beautiful!

did you condition really well....I think it starts with good conditioning

flat iron in small sections and I think you may need serum. Also, you may want to air-dry about 80% then blowdry

I'm thinking it could be the air-drying. I need to invest in a hood dryer so I can some decent rollersets. I need to get a good heat protectant b/c a few months ago I used that Chi silk infusion and my hair ended up the same way.

I think so too.

Thank you. I think I might rollerset next time.

Yes please.:lachen:

My sister's hair was even worse after 3 hrs of flatironing and styling, her hair is thicker than mine. Thick hair is not always a blessing... but go girl, walk to that chirch with pride, your hair looks great even Tina Turner would blush about it.:lachen:

OUCH ! What type of flat iron did you use ?

Good thing is that your hair looks .. big .. and big is good lol

I let the dc sit in for 4 hours b/c I haven't dc in about 2 months due to having Senegalese twists. I need to find some serum. What do you recommend?

It sure isn't. Hopefully my hair won't look worse in the morning. i don't want to obstruct anyone's view tomorrow.

I love big hair...well anyways When you flat iron you will have to concentrate on the roots a little more. When I flat I iron I take small sections and press the flat iron on the roots for the count of three and then proceed downwards slowly but never pausing....I hope that makes sense.

I used a Jilbere. I wanted to use my Chi but that broke a couple of months ago.

Hmmm...I have a Jilbere too. And when I use it...it seems like it makes EVERYTHING much worse...and really, I don't know why????

I was thinking that maybe I just need to crank the heat up! I'm not sure what tempt I had it on the first time I tried it...but the second time...I know I had the tempeture up pretty HIGH...and STILL...I had hair that was even BIGGER than when I started. :perplexed:ohwell:

Something is telling me that the problem might be in the iron itself somehow??? Not sure....

Thank you. I always run the flat-iron really fast down the length of my hair. I'll try it your way next time.

I can just imagine how my hair would have turned out if I turned up the temp. I really don't like that flat iron.

I used to get that same result when I first started. What I do know is take a sheen spray, comb out a small section and go down the section with the flat iron with the comb. Hope that helps!
I have thick hair as well.:yep:
