Re: Flashback from the \'70s

I remember this. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Everyone on my block got it. Some looked decent and some looked like they got their hair pressed too hard.

What a blast from the past.

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

Sorta like a perm/texturizer. It's used to expand your afro and soften it up a bit. Say for instance, you have a very tight, coarse afro. The blowout kit is applied to your hair like a relaxer and combed or picked through. You wash your hair with a neutralizing shampoo and and pick it out.

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

I remember that flashback. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

Aaaaaaagh!!! My brother put that in his hair and it came out straight and very frizzy. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif He had to do a "big chop" and start all over again!

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

That is too funny. Denali I love your new avatar. /images/graemlins/smile.gif You both look so cute.

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

Don't laugh. I dated a guy who's fro looked like the picture on the box. All he had going for him was his hair...I was totally infatuated.

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

I can't help but laugh at that man. My BF's costume this past Halloween looked very similar to him -- afro, sideburns and turtleneck. Okay, sorry for the OT post. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

Look at those sideburns!!! I'm telling my age, but I do VAGUELY remember blowout kits.

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

It looks like a blow out kit. I THINK it's suppose to loosen the curl for a better and more even Afro.

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

THEY STILL MAKE THOES!!! I THOUGHT THEY JUST CAME OUT IN RECENT YEARS. THE S-CURL COMPANY MAKES ONE!

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

This takes me back to my "old school days" when I saw this on Soul Train. That's kinda funny that you brought that up. I don't know if Johnson Products (the people who manufactures Ultra Sheen) still has the Afro Sheen Line anymore. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif It sure was a "Blast from the Past". /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Editor's Note: I'll give away my age if I sure as heck remember that product from the 70's. LOL

Yep, I was just about to say the same thing. I remember the Afro Sheen commercials from watching Soul Train. That seemed to be the only time I saw the commercials. The announcer used to say "Soul Train the hippest trip in America, is sponsored by Afro Sheen and Ultra Sheen cosmetics!" /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Flashback from the \'70s

Hmmm, now I know what Jay was talking about when he said "I could help shorty blow out like afro sheen" in Coming Of Age on Reasonable Doubt /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif
