Fine Hair Ladies: blunt or layers

Yep, this is what I'm going for. I'm STILL trying to grow out a cut from May 2007 with 'layers" that left my hair wispy looking while growing out. =)

Who are you telling...growing out layers is a BEAST!!! I think if my hair was not layered I would be A LOT further along in my hair journey. But the constant trimming to rid myself of these layers has be at a slow crawl to my goal.

You too huh? I am STILL dealing with layers from 07 too.

Yeppers!! I'm still dealing with the layers I got in September 2007. Luckily, when I big chop my relaxed ends this September, that will rectify the situation. I'll never get layers again either.

I have long layers and although my hair doesn't look any thicker it does look fuller. It has body and volume. I agree that a blunt cut would make the hair appear thicker but for my har it would also be limp and lifeless...blah

I feel like the long layers create movement, but for density's sake, I need to grow my hair out and get a blunt cut. I need all the density I can get. At most, I'd get long layers that start at shoulder length and longer...But that is down the road, of course. The more and more I watch my layers grow out, but more I wish it was blunter.

Man- I would love to have a blunt cut but my hair just doesn't grow evenly and it would take forever to grow out. The front grows wayyy slower than the back.

I trimmed this week ladies, well more like cut in some places so I can be more blunt cut and my hair looks so much thicker already. I can't wait until all of these layers are gone!

Blunt. I've always heard that layers make the hair appear thinner, especially the ends. This is the reason I'll never get them.

No more layers for me. I want thick blunt ends with a few layers at the front to frame my face.

I like the way layers look when first cut, but when going for length my hair does much better with a blunt cut. Layers tend to make my hair look 'straggly' as they grow out.
To get the best of both worlds sometimes I will get a blunt cut with a few long layers blended in the very top section only. It works really well that way. Plus those few long layers are easier to grow out to one length (blunt).

Layers. Although they are a pain to grow out they give the illusion of volume and body. Blunt ends make my hair look scarce.

Blunt has always made my hair look thicker. When I tried layers, it always looked thin. And forget about pulling it into a ponytail. It would look sparse and blah.

I think from what I have seen, layers gives thicker hair volume, movement and body/fullness. Layers are a disaster on fine hair and makes them look sparse and thin. I am currently growing out layers and I HATE it. My hair looks scraggly, although it is not damaged or breaking. YUCK! The layers I was given were given completely involountarily, so, after that mishap, I have 100% given up on stylists unless they are blowing me out. I can do EVERYTHING else to my hair except a good blowout. I MUST learn so I can be 100% hair independent

I was just reading this on some stylist site yesterday.

Layers are good for volume if FINE hair is above the shoulder.

Blunt is best for the appearance of volume if FINE hair is SL or longer.

Good information. I will definitely refrain from getting layers.

That makes sense as I'm reading it. Generally speaking, my fine hair looks more voluminous when I wear layers. I don't like blunt cuts on my hair because it just looks blah.

But this is speaking from the experience of my hair being SL or above. I can see how a blunt cut would be better and appear thicker for longer hair.

If I had very fine hair/low density and wore it straight I would have a blunt cut.

I think that density of the hair creates more volume than the circumference of the strand. So for fine hair, maybe some cuts look better layered because they arent as many fine hairs per sq. inch of the head...and others can rock a blunt cut that looks just as full because of the increased density. Just a proposed theory that I have based on no factual data whatsoever - just limited, personal observation and experience.

I like long layers on fine hair. Layers of some kind, but not just straight blunt, that just looks flat to me.
