Dominican blowouts always have me on the edge of my seat so I hope you like the results and don't suffer any setbacks.
 
Hi ladies!

I did end up keeping my appointment and all went well. First off, let me apologize because

I DO NOT HAVE PICTURES....:sad::blush::look:...I just got in the house about 15 minutes ago and I can't find my camera! I'm packing to go outta town tomorrow so I'm sure it'll turn up in the midst of my packing. If so I will post pics tomorrow. I promise :drunk:

As far as how the appointment went, I brought and used my own heat protectant, which wasn't a problem. I had already detangled my hair this morning so I wasn't too concerned about that.

I wasn't crazy about the wait...it was 45 minutes before they got to me!:wallbash: Anywho, she washed and detangled my hair and then deep conditioned it under the dryer. Then rinsed my out and rollerset it. Rollersetting it surprisingly only took about 20 minutes. I sat under the hooded dryer for an hour though to dry with those rollers in my hair. UGH...I hadn't sat under a dryer for an hour in YEARS LOL :lachen:

Then came the blowfrying...ooops, I mean blowDRYING lol...She blew me out with the roundbrush and I must say that the heat they use is indeed SERIOUS. On the other hand, it wasn't "as bad" as I thought it would be. I was about to tell her that at point that it was too high but in the split second I looked up at her, the look I gave her must've said it all cuz she nodded and turned the heat down at that VERY SECOND! LMAO :lachen:

The blowdrying part took about 45-50 minutes. My roots are bone straight...like, relaxer straight. They took another 15 minutes to LIGHTLY go over my entire head with the flat iron...I couldn't sense that the flat iron was on very high at all. Which, it shouldn't have been because my hair was pretty straight already.

Oh, and after seeing my ends I just COULDN'T RESIST a trim...don't worry though. She only took off an inch. It's got a pretty "blunt" look to it that I really like alot. And for those of you who read my "I shoulda stopped while I was ahead" thread...the bang my boss cut for me actually looks good today since my hair is straight at the moment.

All in all it was an okay experience. The heat, in my opinion, is scary though. I think that for me, I would POSSIBLY go back, as a rare treat to myself, and if so I would bring even more of my products next time should I decide to return. There wasn't much of anything else to report ;)

Oh, the wash, deep conditioning, rollersetting and trim came to $45.

Oh yeah, I already can't wait to do a protein treatment and feel my natural hair again but like a couple of posters have mentioned to me in this thread and via pm, for the moment, I will try to focus on enjoying my hair ;)

I came back to mention that when the lady went to trim my hair, I asked her if she could tell/show me how much she was about to trim BEFORE trimming it. She didn't respond. I asked again. She didn't seem to respond. She pulled out the scissors...I was on my cell phone and literally screamed

WAIT!​

She bout DROPPED the friggin scissors!....:look:....and the girl at the register (I guess she speaks the most English outta all of them) turned around and was like, "Ma'am, she's just checking, she's just checking, she's about to let you know!"

I was like: "Oh, ok. :look: I've just had alotta bad experiences with people cutting too much. Lo siento." <---They thought that was hilarious :grin:

I thought she was bout to go hacking away...I swore I had a flashback to last spring (I posted a thread about it) when I told my stylist not to cut my hair and she did it anyway. Not about to let that happen again!! LOL​

I want to stress that even though it went well and I like my hair and I would possibly return, this is not something I would do on a regular basis. I think my method of straightening is "safer". I feel the same about Too Groovy's method; I don't think they use as much heat either.

My biggest issue is the amount of heat they put on the ends of the hair when using the roundbrush. I meant to say that that is one thing I had to speak up about. I had to tell her not to hold the heat on my ends like that. So I basically got the roots/shaft of my hair blown out but my ends, not so much. And I'm okay with that.

Glad to hear it turned out well, I'm too scared to get a blowout, I'd rather see it on other people. I cant wait to see pics
 
The blowdry took 45-50 minutes? Is that the norm? I've never had a domincan blowout
 
ima need u to at least give us an appetizer and use your cell phone or something. I'm feenin for some pics right about now. :lol:
 
ZZ I can't wait to see your results, I'm on pins and needles. I've never had a DB, but I've been thinking about getting one next spring for my bday.
 
im glad you had good results.. I used to get that done almost every 2 weeks (when i was in H.s.) i stopped b/c my strands started to get thin. They have thickened up. the only time I get my hair blow dryed is when i'm stretching. and then its only the roots.
 
ZZ that is wonderful that everything went so well. I agree with everyone else about enjoying your hair right now and not worrying about damage. I'm flat ironed right now and made the same decision.

I LOL'd at you getting off your cellphone to tell her to stop! Too funny!!

I'm too scared to let anyone else touch my hair, let alone do a blow out. :ohwell: But I admire your courage for trying something new and I'm glad it turned out to be a positive experience for you. Can't wait for the pics. :yep:

Are you saying that Too Groovy uses too much heat too? I've never been there but I have been to Portia who was trained by Robin. I think the temperature that she uses might be higher than what I use (I am just learning) but I thought she was very good to my hair.

Can't wait to see pics!
