....I gave in to temptation, and I wanted to try it at least ONE time. My appointment is for 5:30 (I may move it up to 4:30 or 5:00).

Any words of advice before going? I'm not letting them trim it....

***ETA: Pictures added approximately 8:15 pm EST 11/16***
***I ADDED PICS INSIDE OF THIS THREAD AND THOUGHT I WOULD POST THEM HERE TOO FOR THOSE THAT MISSED THE OTHER POST***

*janeemat is the poster who mentioned the Dominican salon in the salon forum. shout out to her!

Man, you guys are BRUTAL!!! No but I really had enough laughs today to last me a lifetime!!

Sorry for the wait!!! Ok so this is my first time using my cell to take pics so this is the best I could do! For those that didn't read my other post today my camera wasn't working when I got home (won't hold a charge and I tried like 3 sets of new batteries) so I had to figure out how to send pics with my cell!

I've never had a blow-out, but I've heard stories, both good and bad. Just be careful with all that beautiful hair! I just have the usual advice: Deep condition before hand, use heat protectant, etc. Can't wait to see the results .

P.S. If that stylist is giving you the slightest bit of attitute or asserts her opinions over yours...Make like a Forrest and Run! Self-exalted stylists are a no-go.

I did DC on dry hair overnight last night...

I've never been to this place before so I wonder if I need to just a whole stash of my own products (in addition to my heat protectant) with me just in case?

I didn't have good experiences with Dominicans when I was natural
but, hopefully your experience will be good. :nono:

I would suggest getting a rollerset and letting them blow your roots out to cut down on the heat or any potential damage.

Be sure to post pics!:yep:

ITA :yep:

The Dominican shop was my 2nd choice; I found a lady that presses (flat irons) natural hair but she is booked for today/tomorrow and I needed it done asap. Kinda sux cuz she said she was only gonna charge $35! AND she came recommended to me by someone else who had seen my hair and said she does a good job straightening hair...

I only had my hair done twice and my hair was only texlax NL. Make sure you bring heat protectant. I love the after look but those bursts of heat from the blow dryer on my scalp has made me scared to go back

Make sure to take pictures!!!!

Deep condition or bring your own if you'd like, otherwise its an extra $5-$10 bucks. Bring some heat protectant just in case they don't have any. Not sure if your hair is natural, but try to detangle beforehand. I always bring my own denman brush and large tooth comb just in case.

^This place uses the dryer AND the flat iron...so I would assume the heat from the dryer should be less.....right..?

Use heat protectant and don't LET them fry your hair.

We have heard many horror stories when people go get their hair done at salons. They wish they would have spoken up or said something when they KNEW the stylist was doing something wrong (burning their hair, cutting to much hair, pulling hair out with rat tail combs, etc). If you feel they are disrespecting your hair don't be afraid to get up and walk out or speak up.

take your heat protectant. dust your ends while your sitting at work today if you can. All that heat can wreak havoc on any split ends you may have. Good luck.

Enjoy it! I can't wait to see pictures - I think as a "rare" treat it will be just fine. :)

P.S. They tend to like to follow up with all this oil sheen and spray and what not - I never let them put any of that in my hair, because I think it detracts from the bounciness/lightness. After you walk out the salon and enjoy it for the day, you can just follow up with your own personal moisturizing/sheen/whatever.

I had good experiences at the Dominican salon I went to. But this was pre LHCF. You should def bring your own heat protectant. I remember she put something on my hair before she did the blow out but didn't even bother to ask what it was.:nono: The dryer is hottttttt:burning: so you def need to make sure she uses something. I would advise that you consult with the stylist before she starts to make sure your needs will be met.

Be prepared in case your hair doesn't fully revert right away. Have a strong protien/restructuring treatment ready to help reinforce your hair texture. You also might want to pick up some beer now, so you can do a beer rinse when you wash it out - apparently it helps with reforming the curls and kink after a blow out.

Good Luck! I know it will look great. :yep:

From what I have seen when I go to Dominican salons- people bring their own conditioners/heat protectants, etc..so like alot of people stated- you should bring your own. Not trying to scare you, but prepare for that heat on your scalp when they are doing the blowout. It hurts--but then again, I am tenderheaded. As Maria stated, make sure your hair is fully detangled because they will try to comb your hair with a fine toothed comb -especially if they are doing a rollerset first.

I am natural and sometimes they will want to rollerset me first and then blow out the roots...and other times, they will just blow it out completely without the rollerset first. You should see which method they are going to use on your hair.

I love the results from Dominican shop--but its like a once every 4 months thing for me..just watch your scalp cause that heat aint no joke

Most place do the rollers under the hard dryer and then use a blow dryer to blow it out at the roots, that's the heat that burns the scalp because they have the concentrater going super close to your scalp. But if your place skips the blow dryer then you should be good

You will definitely love the end results. Being natural you will definitely need the entire length blown to get the full affect. It will be hot, but you will have some swang:yep:. Once every now and then should not be a problem. Oh and you can bring your own products.

Well then, how is it a blowout. It will just be a flat iron.:drunk::spinning:

Deep Condition, USE HEAT PROTECTANT...They tend to love to run the dryer close to the hair as they pull with the brush and concentrate on the ends. All that can cause split ends. Trust me I know. Bring your silk scarf for after they wrap your hair..

Roller set and blow out. It works out better for naturals. I have seen it done for my sister and it was easier

You should be ok. Just make sure you tell them what you want.

So on top of the heat protectant, DC, whatever...

DON'T FORGET TO ENJOY YOUR HAIR. I had my first DB in over a year about 6 weeks ago and so many people had beat into my head the possibility of heat damage that I was paranoid about what my hair was gonna look like when I washed it and didn't really enjoy all that swang. Have fun with it!

you can def do with out the excessive blowdrying and roundbrush and still have swing. the dominican salon burned my hair straight and I had to get 3 inches cut in 2007. the girl i go to now uses way less heat (still uses the blwdryer but doesnt use a round brush or repeatedly goes over the same section with a smoking dryer) and I get the same results if better.
