Hello guys...since I have joined I have been reading like crazy. I kinda don't know where I fit in because I am natural...and the thoughts of relaxing my hair has popped in my mind a few times lately. I was curious as to if roller setting the hair is possible on natural hair? Would it make my hair look super duper crazy...like a bird's nest or something? I just need help....I know alot about hair but it just seems like transitioning into a different STYLE is kinda hard. I do twist-outs and I am trying to change from something else. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm not natural, but I know a few ladies roller set their natural hair and it looks great. I think "Bublnbrnsuga" does. She has pics in her album.

Don't get discouraged. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

First... I love your pictures and the creativity of them.
Your eyebrows are to die for.

Don't feel discourage. You can roller set and get a blow out the a blow dryer and round brush.

You can also get the same results with a ceramic iron.

Stay focused and encouraged.

What do you think you want to change to? Do you want straighter styles? Curlier styles? Easier-to-manage styles?

Don't feel discouraged. Your hair already looks healthy, and that's an accomplishment in itself.

The grass always "seems" greener on the other side, but whether relaxed or natural, each has it's own pros and cons.

I don't have any specific advice. I just wanted to say don't be discouraged.

Your hair is beautiful and rest assured you can rollerset your natural hair...Bubbln, AFashionSlave, Carefree (I think) and Skeegee have rollerset their natural hair with great results, do a search for them in the members section.

I've seen many naturals get a Dominican blow-out and roller set and their hair looked exactly like when a person with a relaxer gets it done.

Yes it is possible. You can check out my album- the password is texture. Look in the "Do you know what today is" folder and there's an album inside that is titled Rollersets. HTH

Thank you.....
I am trying to stay away from heat. I press my hair and the end of every month to see the length of my hair. That is the only time I use heat. I do twist-outs and frankly the curl activator jelly is totally making me sick...but I do it because it is the only thing that I can think of that I don't need heat for. This is what I do:
1. Pre-condition
2. wash with dime-sized shampoo
3. condtion
4. part hair in sections (still wet) and then twist with the activator gel
5. let it air dry
6. pull apart the next day
That has been my style and as a ritual sort of speak I starighten it to see if I can see length..that was probably most of what you guys saw in my hair albums.
(Thanks about the eyes comment....that made me smile)

Check out these websites, they should give you some encouragement and ideas. I know of a lot more that are similar but they have pswds and I don't think they would want them posted to the public. All the pictures are of naturals with medium to long hair.

Hello Ebonywoman,

I'm not natural, but I know plenty of women who rollerset their hair and it looks lovely. Just don't get discouraged. Stick with it. You have beautiful hair.

I don't know about you "feeling discouraged," but after looking at these ladies' photos with their fabulous versatile and luxuriously healthy natural hair I FEEL VERY ENCOURAGED! I must admit though it is easy to get discouraged, but patience is a truly a virtue when it comes to hair! Thank you for the photo's ladies you all look great!
