I switched up my products this time and I think that is going to make a major difference for the look of my braidout/twistout...

This time, I used a leave-in conditioner, Luster's Renutrients Styling Mousse, EVOO, and H20...We shall see...

I moisturize my hair with kbb hair milk, seal with coconut oil and use donna marie lock and twist pudding...this is my fave because it makes my hair feel moisturized as well....i like experimeting and I have also found that Curls Goddess Curl Gel or Curl Junkie CoCo Curl Cream works fab as well....I need to get off of here before I take my weave down and play in hair products lol

I have the bolded at home and will be doing this tonight for a T/O on Friday. Do you have any hold with this?

I use Trader Joe's Nourish Spa (undiluted) as a leave-in and re-wet (spray bottle) as I twist/braid with diluted Nourish Spa/Water (1 to 3 ratio). I add Eco-Styler gel (clear) in the roots, if I remember. This gives me the PERFECT twist out/braid out. Always soft & defined and smells delish! I never do one style for more than 2 days, so I don't know how long it would last if I tried........

I layer cantu shea butter leave in, HW Silky 14n1, and coconut oil. Hair dries super soft, shiny, and almost zero frizz. It's alot of product, but my hair is so dense I've found that if I don't layer all the products it doesn't have the same effect. i want to try some other butters, but my hair soaks up so much product that the cantu is the only one that gives me the most bang for my buck.

ETA...i can go a week and a half with this. i re-wet the ends and seal w/ oil every couple of days

I'm getting ready to do a braidout instead of a twistout. This time I'm gonna use Giovanni 50/50 and Castor oil.

I have been on this journey as well...
I am 60% natural 40% bkt'ed on texlaxed hair (which is STRAIGHT when wet).. so with super wavy roots and straight ends.. imagine my dilemma...

I have tried..
HV Whipped jelly.. made my hair crunch
Blended Beauty Silk Shake - really liked.. not enough hold
Blended Beauty Curly Pudding - LOVED
Blended Beauty Light Styling lotion - love
Curls Milkshake.. used to work alright but now gets frizzy too fast
Curls whipped cream - did a good job.. need to revisit

Since I have finer hair.. I'm scared to try "BUTTAHS".. I don't want to look like a greasy mess...

My thing is finding a nice sealing serum .. right now I like SSI's jojoba serum...

But I'm taking notes.. Here's a pic from a good one from a few weeks ago.. I did a twist out and then bantu knotted them and sat under the dryer... even though this is against the "t/o rules".. I can't let mine get all the way dry.. they'll be too tight.. and won't give me that wavy effect.. another member's whose hair I loved used SSI's macadamia nut gel which I absolutely love for hers and it was beautiful...

I usually use gel for defined twist outs. When unraveling the twists, I use a grease or serum. For bigger, poofy twist outs, I won't use any gel just use a leave-in.

I'm transitioning (almost 14 mos. post) and I usually do a twist and curl on damp hair with HE tousle me softly finishing cream. When I unravel them the next morning, I put a little hot six oil on my fingers. This usually can last me about 3 days or so, but I always retwist at night.

Sorry Im late, but yes maam, the definition and hold is awesome! I have relaxed ends too so thats hard to achieve for me....I just re-braid in larger sections each night (4-6 braids)...go easy on the dm pudding or you will end up with greasy hair....let me know how this turns/turned out for you!

I did an ok twist out with Miss Jessie's curly meringue however, my hair just didnt feel soft. I used DevCare One Conditioner and the Angel light hold gel the other day and my twist out feels really soft and my hair smells super good. I will def try this again.

Curly Meringue is my number one styling product for braidouts. I want to try mousse our foam and see how that works out.

thanks for all the responses!

I'm stil torn on what to use. However, after reading thru the thread and my little experiment a few weeks ago, I think its going to have to be something extra moisturizing and buttery that I use on my hair. My hair is DRY; very very dry. And whatever product(s) I use for my twistout, I do not want it to make my hair crispy, and it is very easy for products to make my hair crispy which equals breakage just from touching it. So I'm thinking the gels and setting lotions/mousses may be out for me.

My current fave is Miss Jessies Curly Meringue, I mix two tspns of it, 3 tspns of Aloe Vera Gel, and 1 tspn of Sally's Argan Oil...it gives me wonderful definition, and great lasting hold...

My other fave for lighter hold is, ORS Lock n Twist Gel, mixed with Sally Argan Oil...

I also use Cantu shea butter leave-in and Hawaiian Silky 14n1. They leave my hair moisturized and shiny when used together.

Amoreofcurls, I absolutely love your curly hair in your siggy...BEE-U-T-FULL!!!! I hope when I am your length my hair will look as good.

Anywho, now that I stop drooling (hehe), for my recent twistout, I used KC Knot Today, aloe gel, coconut oil, and castor oil on damp hair. I'm on day two. The hair is soft and not oily. I have a little frizz, but I think its due to my hand being in my hair constantly.
