February 2007 HITS AND MISSES!!!

Hits: Sunsilk Hydra TLC 24/7 Creme

Misses:
-ORS Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion- Left my hair feeling coated and crunchy dry. I used it on dry hair and on wet freshly clarified and deep conditioned hair and had the same results. I will be mixing this product with flax seed mucilage to thin it out and add moisture (I don't waste anything).

-Clairol Beautiful Collection Semi-Permanent Haircolor- The color only last 1-2 shampoos. I've tried leaving the color on for hours, have sat under the heating cap and still have the same effect. My hair is sandy in color and I have natural caramel highlights. I used a color that was nearly black and it bearly darkens the caramel colored strands. I'm going back to Jazzings or Adore which worked well for me back in the day.

Aw heck Shunta, you're gonna have to call Wal-Mart and some local drugstores on me too.

Mega Hit:
Doo Gro Mega Thick lotion: This stuff comes out of the bottle in a blue rasberry hue and smells just as yummy. It's nice and thick and is heaven on my ends sealed with castor oil.

And that's all I'm fessing up to. :look:

*Priestess tips toes out of the thread saying, "It wasn't me, y'all." :sekret:

and then I saw the other ladies comment to your post...

and I just started cracking the HEYALL up!!! :lachen:

I have lost my mind a little bit this month though...but it was Black History Month...no one equates that with Beauty Supply Store/Try out hair products month??? :look:

MORE HITS:
Phyto 9 day cream: moisturizing but not heavy it's the perfect moisturizer for when I want to wear my hair down and swinging.

Using Chi Silk Infusion/Porosity Control/Phyto's pre-relaxer oil to protect my already relaxed hair: It turned out wonderfully well and I couldn't be happier!!

  • Giovanni shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in - in my siggy!
  • Jay, my new stylist - LOVE her!
  • Redken Clear Mist - for rollersets (very light and doesn't weigh hair down at all!)
  • Honey - Added to ALL of my conditioners!
  • Optimum relaxer - Absolutely amazing and no burning! Although it does require me to moisturize my hair more...is it no lye?

Revisited Hits: NTM Hair Masque, Suave Coconut Milk Conditioner

Undecided: Dove Moisture Mist....it was GREAT at detangling and I am like 90 weeks post  Not too sure about the "moisturizing" properties yet :perplexed I'm thinking I might need to use it with a heavy cream.

Uh oh, not cool. Did you detangle your hair beforehand (before braiding it)? I haven't had any tangling issues while washing in braids.

Hits:
Coconut milk- I did get a cheap .99 cent brand, and ½ of a lime but it still loosened my curl and softened my hair, I am defiantly doing this again, I find that milk in general detangles my hair nicely.VO5 moisture milks ext.
Garnier Frutics sleek and shine serum, and leave in conditioner – the serum leaves my hair smelling YUMMY the leave in is not as great smell wise but it really moisturizes my hair for a cheap price.
Almond Oil I have used this for my skin in the past and loved it so I started using it on my hair and WOW does it make my flat ironed hair SOFTTTT J
Caster Oil This works on my natural damp hair it dries with a nice sheen to it and looks deeply moisturized
Pin Curling: This looks nice on my flat ironed hair and its very easy to sleep in defiantly a keeper.

On the Fence:
Giovanni Leave in Direct: the only reason I am on the fence is I haven’t had a chance to use it a lot. It seems a little thin to me, but the ingredient list is yummy and so many others like it I must continue use.
Nexxus Emergence: I did this as directed on package put it on damp hair and left it in only for say 5 minutes while a washed in the shower then rinsed it out, I cant say I noticed any change, I will have to try again and leave in longer or sit under the dryer.

With the Emergencee, try applying it and sitting under a hair dryer for about 20 minutes (or until it makes your hair stiff). Then rinse it out and follow up with a light shampoo and deep conditioner. Works much better than the directions on the bottle!

Another Hit

Annie Mesh Rollers  I did my first successful rollerset in about 7 years. I love these things. There were so much better than the magnetic rollers which have been taking up space in my bins. My mom laughed when she saw them "MY mom used to use these...I need to get some".

I'm wondering why I haven't been doing roller sets. It got my accidently textlaxed hair nice and smooth. I may retire my flat irons to the garage in the very BACK.

Thanks for the recommendations ladies!

Miss :nono:

Those roller pin-stick thingies...had me ready to cuss :whip:

I instantly fell in love with this product. I mix it into the Lacio Lacio as well for rollersets.

Hits: Herbal Essences Hello Hydration (smells great detangles like a charm)
Suave Tropical Coconut conditioner
Jessicurl's Rockin' Ringlets Style potion (is amazing; gives great curls!)
Homemade leave-ins (They rock and are so much fun to prepare.)
Jojoba oil is great for just about anything.

Misses: Daily Defense Tender Apple Conditioner (I sooo wanted this to work. Every review I read raved about its detangling properties. I went and bought a bottle off ebay since its been discontinued and I was very disappointed)
Sebastian Potion 9: Is clearly not for natural hair. I'm passing this down to my sister who has a relaxer. Maybe it will be better for her?...
Sebastian WET: Maybe if I had a relaxer this would work...
Curls Whipped Cream: This did NOTHING for my hair!

On the Fence: : L'Oreal Nurturing Creme for Dry hair: I tried it once. I'm going to use it again. I think it gives good moisture... I just have to give it a chance I guess.
Abba Nourishing: It causes my hair to shrink so much, but does give good moisture.... I'll just pass on it anyway until I find something better.
ORS lock and twist gel: I loved what it did to my twists in the beginning... now it flakes! I'll have to find something that moisturizes and gives the hold it gave.
Baking Soda and warm water as a no-poo, my hair just doesn't feel clean at all.

I used the big hair (bobby) pins to pin the rollers together instead of using them through the hair. I don't like using the hair pins through the hair because my mom used to sustain a lot of breakage.

They weren't especially 'tight' because of this but for what I needed (straightness without the flat iron, it was great). I'll get the hang of those stick/pin thingies soon.

Maybe someone can post a pic of how they are supposed to look when they are inserted properly?

HTH. :look:
