Why are my ends all poofy and ugly looking? At first I thought maybe they were split ends so I looked at them and nope, they're not split. Are they just really dry? What can I do to fix this? tia

Well there is a few things you can do. I noticed that my ends were looking bad at one point of my hair journey and these are some of the things you can do.

Try a treatment. Maybe your ends are dry and are thirsty for moisture!! DC for the next 3 weeks maybe 2wice a week and see how that goes. If nothing improves maybe a light dusting or a little trim. Whenever my ends arent looking well and treatments dont work I do a little clipping and my hair thanks me.

Maybe you can try baggying.. I never done this but a lot of ladies swear by it... BUMPING for more replies!

If i'm not mistaken, they can be heat damaged without necessarily being split. In terms of masking it, Redken smooth down butter treat on my ends when i airdry makes my ends straight and smooth almost like i had blowdried!

When my ends are thirsty, I up my moisture. Throw in an extra DC, maybe a steam treatment, and baggy for a few nights.

or they could need a good cleaning due to product build up. Try a little baking soda and water (runny paste) leave on a minute or 2 and rinse.

Have you changed relaxers? I noticed puffy ends when I grew out from a few Motions relaxers - my hairdresser said she noticed it on alot of people's hair. We switched perms and gradually trimmed it out. Try some coconut oil or vaseline on the ends - My daughter's ends were a little out of control - I put some on her ends and it fixed it. hth

after you do all these wonderful things everyone has suggested at night spritz your hair with a moisturizer follow up with a leave in conditioner and then end it with shea butter and hide. This treatment really turned my ends around and i am natural but my ends are really soft and tangle free since I been doing this.

Yea, that looks like my "former" ends - that's heat damage. Lay off the heat. And I'm sure the other advice will help in one or two treatments.

My ends lok like that and I was contemplating whether I should cut them or not. I'm not sure if it's heat damaged (I haven't used heat in months. No curling, flat ironing or blowdrying). I'm going to try some of these suggestions and hope this helps. I don't want to cut my hair.

Hi

I had this and really found that in addition to moisture (steam really helps), and making sure i was sealing in the moisture, Apple cider vinegar rinses really really helped. i odnt measure, just pour some in a jug of water for your final rinse (if you can smell the vinegar, dilute it some more.

HTH

Thanks. I'll try it this weekend.

My ends were like this, after I upped my DC steam treatments to twice a week, my ends are now smooth, the difference was noticeable after just one week. Just need to keep on moisturising...

Butter Treat is fabulous for very dry ends, that coupled with Aveda Dry Remedy masque/poo really work for me.
