Tai,
I usually coat my hair with the mango butter and spritz with distilled water and nexxus humectress mixture. I do about the same with my ponies. I alternate between doing wet & dry ponies. I use the QP Glaze to smooth my edges. What are your thoughts?
TBird, are you using pure mango butter or Elasta's? I've seen a few people mention some dryness w/ using it and where there's dryness there can be some breakage, too. That's the only thing I can think of
I only use elasta's when my hair is wet. I'm having a hard time find a moisturizer for my hair that I can use all the time wet or dry. Any suggestions? My hair is extremely dry. I'm mean I have the Sahara sitting on the top of my head.
Have you tried Profectiv's break free or NTM's creamy leave in, Salerm 21, Lacio Lacio? I have all of them except for the NTM and they work great. I use them on both dry and wet hair w/ good results.
For the aluminum & heat I read that you can plug in your iron to make it hot and once it's hot enough you unplug it and then it will be safe to use. That's what I READ so don't blame me if it goes awry
@ NYCQT16: Thank you. I heard that in a thread recently. I don't want to end up messing up the flat iron. I have only used it once. I may break down and buy a non electric flat iron.

i think imma have to steal this idea from u....
i'll officially start the challenge when i get back from my "vacation" this weekend!
Tai, I have the NTM, and I've used Profectiv's healthy ends or whatever its called. I want to try the lacio lacio and the Salerm, but I have so much now that I wanted to get rid of some of the stuff I've got before I did. Last night I did my twistout with the elasta's mango and this morning put a little of the neutrogena serum on my fingers when I took them out and its very shiny. Not too manipulation and no ponytail!!! I think I will alternate between my pony and twistouts, maybe that will help with the breakage. I really appreciate the tips.
I am in on this challenge also. The only time I seem to really retain length is when I either wear braids or buns. I think that I will use plain ole grease on my ends and wear buns. The only thing is I hate wearing buns because I have a press and my edges and kitchen seem to get nappy so quick no matter what I do. I am going to hang in there though.
Buns and low oontact styles work best for me. I got through my first transition by wearing buns and phony ponies the entire time. I'm not as big on phonies as I was back then but I may have to add a few.
I wanna join. I've never officially joined in on a challenge but I think I really need this. I'm going to get my touch-up this Thursday and I'll also be getting a trim or cut. I should be in good shape. I'm just not sure about what I'll do to maintain my ends. I like to wear my hair out.
I was paying more attention to my ends by putting Healthy Ends, Breakfree or Coconut oil on the length of my ponytail...my ponytail is short...and did so with maybe 1 or 2 pieces of hair in my hair or none. Now after my Sat. relaxer I do this and broken pieces all up in my hand!!!! I am so
This was right after your relaxer? I would notice more shedding right after I texturized so as long as it wasn't handfuls, I wouldn't be upset. I would even have some minor breakage right after as well. I would do a protein treatment to stop the breakage.
How about if you put you hair into a ponytail and just band it and tuck the ends up under? I think thats a good protective style, yes? Kinda like native american or like Deecoily has her's, if any of you have seen her pics. I wanna try that when i get enough length in the back. Plus what makes me think that to is how alot of our hair was back when we were all lil girls in those pigtails and things and at the ends mom would always tuck the ends up, or at least most of the time. The ends had the mositure of grease or so and the hair would be in a pony, twisted/braided, and then the ends tucked up and a lil barret put on it and that was it. And alot of folx use to have loooooooong hair. It was simple back then too.
I'm now officially in the challenge. I went out and got a new phony pony that's gotten compliments all day and a phony bun that's too small so it's got to get exchanged tonight. My ends are tucked away in a baggie, coated with healthy ends, sealed with avocado and castor oil.

Caress, are you moisturizing your ends when your hair is down?

Yes but not every day. Actually, I just do it when I think about it. I need to a plan and to be consistent. Also, I was going to get a touch-up and trim today but decided not to. I will either this weekend or next week. I'll start the challenge then. Maybe I'll figure out what to do by then.
