My biggest problem has been retaining length. This was partially due to having a somewhat SHS who's idea of a trim was my idea of a cut.

And it was also due to the fact that I did nothing to protect or moisturize my ends before I came to the boards.

I just had my ends dusted and I'm ready to start fresh. I'm coming up with a regimen that will protect and preserve my ends. Anyone else with me?

i'll play!! so, what kind of regimen are you thinking of?? the only thing i really do consitently is moisturize my ends every night...

what else can be done?

Right now, I'm thinking of using Profectiv's Healthy ends each night, then sealing with amla oil or coconut oil. I'm also going to keep my hair in a protected style so my ends are covered. I'm considering using the baggie method and putting conditioner on my ends when I shampoo.

I'm in, I've been considering using the baggie method. I moisturize my ends everyday and I don't think it's helping.

count me in, my new salon charges $20 extra for a trim so I dont want to need one come next touch up!

I'll join ya! I moisturize my ends nightly, and have 'em tucked into a bun. I've done enough of trimming my ends for right now. While I'm in braids, my ends will be moisturized so they won't fray off. I'll be doing the plastic bag method suggested by den1 during the challenge.

i just finished putting twists in my hair...and oh my lord, do i need a trim!!! the ends are so frayed....i think im gonna trim them up in the next couple of days...

what do you ladies do to seal the ends??? ive heard the term, but im not sure what it means...

I'll join...I just trimmed a centimeter and I want to preserve my ends. Plus, I am on the bun challenge, so it's all the same.

@ Ayeshia: I just had a trim yesterday so I won't be trimming any time soon. I'm going to see if I can make it until March w/o doing any more trims.

Hi, Shatani! You must be new to the board, yes?

The term "sealing the ends" is applying grease or oil on the ends to keep them moisturized. A few examples are Profective Healthy Ends, shea butter, mango butter, extra virgin olive oil, or plain old grease. Using either of these can help your ends retain moisture while combating split ends and dryness. Suggestion is to moisturze at night before bed and Always wear a silk or satin scarf or line your pillow with a satin pillowcase. Glad to help out for a newbie.

[/ QUOTE ]ah, i see....ive been doing that the whole time, just didnt know the terminology....i thought that sealing the ends had to do with aluminum foil and heat....glad i asked!! thanks for the info

I am in. I just got a trim yesterday also so now I know my ends are right and I just gotta keep them that way
smile.gif
. Oh I am new too (only been here about 2 months or less) and I thought sealing ends was the aluminium & heat also...oops

shatani, that is another method of sealing the ends and I know a lot of ppl have had success with that method too. I think it helps the ends from frizzing and makes them hold the moisture in since its sealed with heat, but the foil is a barrier so its not direct heat...kinda like how sitting under the dryer makes your conditioner penetrate more. Thats my best guess!
Plan to try this soon though. My stylist says if the ends ar

Count me in. I have been using Profectiv Heathy Ends and this seems to be working no more trims for me for awhile.

count me in as well...when does the challengs end?
im doing a bun challenge anyway, so y not?
im itchin for brastrap....

Let's see. Most challenges end in one year but I don't know if I can go a year w/o a trim.

. Six month end challenge?

I would love to join. I had my ends trimmed about 3 weeks ago and want to see my hair grow from there. How long are we going for?

question....im getting extensions pretty soon, will that be bad for my ends?? what can i do to make sure my ends are okay while i have my braids in??

i will be getting a protein tx and a trim before i get the braids, too...
~T~

The extensions shouldn't be bad for the ends. I would just make sure you coat them well w/ braid spray so they still get some protection.

Tai, what styles are you going to use to protect your ends? I would love to wear my bun everyday but my hair is short so I have to wear a phony pony and I'm getting breakage from wearing a ponytail everyday. Also I've been trying twistouts, but that doesn't protect my ends. I want to be apart of this challenge, any tips will be greatly appreciated

I'm going to do mostly buns but I might add some phony ponies in there when I get bored. Are you coating your ends with a moisturizer and/or oil when you do a twist out? What are you using when you do your ponytail, TBird? Are you combing, brushing? Doing it wet or dry?

i'll bite...i think i'll do about 4 small buns at nite...seeing thats all i can do with the length i have....i'll try the thing with foil and heat too for frizzie lizzies

im a little scared to do the foil thing...am i being rediculous???

oh, and i just got my coconut oil a few minutes ago!!! thats going right on my ends before bed!

btw, ive got my hair in twists....
