Has anyone ever gone to an egytptian salon before? I had planned on getting a dominican blow out, but my coworker suggested I go get one done at an egyptian salon. I didn't know that egyptians had there own specialty hair salons.

If anyone has ever had an egyptian experience, can you explain what was done? How did it compare to dominican salons(if you've ever gone), would you recommend it?

Thanks!

I've been and they are the same - wash, roller set, blow dry.....nothing different, well maybe the products (couldn't see what was being used on my hair, you know how stylist like to "hide" their stuff).

Thanks, that's good b/c while their are plenty of dom hair salons around here, all the egytpian ones are some type of big secret. I won't break my neck trying to crack the code.

I go to an egyptian salon. They're great at getting natural hair straight or any hair straight with blowdrying. I havent been to a dominican salon to compare. I would recommend it. I get a relaxer every time I go.

A word of caution: if your hair cannot take a lot of heat, or is fine, please do not go to an Egyptian salon. I used to go to Yehia's (sp) in Chicago (bi-weekly) when I lived there and I loved the way my hair looked for the first few months. Your hair will be straight and swinging. After a while, I noticed a section of my hair was missing in the back from where it broke off from the heat. Long story short, I ended up with the original Halle Berry cut, which I hated, and wore braids all summer to grow it back out. Some people's hair can take extreme heat, but if you know yours can't, do not even think of going to an Egyptian salon. Between the heat and the round brush, your hair will get ripped and fried. The last time I was in a Dom salon was in Nuevo Estilo in Philly, I walked out before they even got to me, because I got the chills watching how they blowout the hair. My hair can't take all the tension with the brushes and I am sure not getting the Halle Berry cut again!!!

DITTO for what Ubavka123 said..I went to Yehia's on Dearborn St(downtown Chicago) and they use extreme, extreme heat...my mom went only once and had breakage from the harsh heat & brush..her hair is finer than mine

i used to go to yehia in chicago too. just so no to egyptian salons! they will mess your hair, not just fine hair either. i have thick hair, but eventually all of the heat took its toll.

Thanks ladies, I KNOW my hair is fragile so I will say no to the egyptian salon.

Maybe this is why when my coworker said she went to egyptian salons, I could never tell.

I was thinking about going to an Egyptian salon too, but I guess not now. Lord knows that I need all the hair that I have. LOL.

This is so true! I went to Mena's in the south suburbs of Chicago and also Cleopatra's and they all use too much heat. I can only go about twice a year. I've heard so many horror stories about people who lose a patch of hair here and have to cut off 4 inches there...its crazy! But they really make your hair look nice, its just something you cant do on a regular basis.

PS. YOUR HAIR WILL SMELL BURNT WHEN THEY FINISH!!!:(
