Dry, tangled ends

SO what do you do for dry tangled ends on hair that has been washed and dried? I think a lot of threads focus on hair that's tangled while wet. I have no problem when my hair is wet. I usually just oil my ends but they get too oily. Anybody else's ends get tangled like this?

when my ends start to tangle badly it is because i need a trim. same thing when i was a permie.
