dry hair, what\'s up with that

Hello everyone, for some reason I have severly dry hair. I feel like I have to put some kind of oil or moisturizer in my hair everyday, but that does not even work because after about 3 hours of moisturizing my hair feels dry and brittle, even on the ends.(I think this is the reason my hair gets frizzy alot, because of moisture lost) How many times a day or week do you guys moisturize your hair, and what do you think is the best long lasting moisturizer??? thank you

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I moisturize about 3-4x per week and I use Elatsa QP Recovery Oil Moisturizer and jojoba oil

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Akira,

What kind of conditioner do you use on your hair? Are you deep conditioning? What kind of relaxer and how often do you get a touch-up?

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Oil is not a moisturizer. Oil can lock in moisture. If your hair is dry and you put oil on it, it's not going to moisturize it.
Think of it this way... if you are thirsty, are you going to reach for a glass of water? or a glass of oil?

Naturally you will go for the water and be done with it

, no amount of oil will ever quench your thirst

Try conditioner washes to add moisture to your hair, and oil to lock that moisture in. Try to lay off of heat if possible and you should see your hair retain much more moisture. HTH

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

i use curl activator to moisturize and Vaseline to seal it in. i put a baggie on after that. with this method, i moisturize my ends once a week right after washing. i leave it up like that all week.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I agree with Caramela...the oil alone will not quench your hair's thirst. Perhaps adding moisture first (water) and then an oil product will keep it from being so thirsty. I realize this would be hard if you need a "style" every day. I personally have basically given up a finished style for the moment, not even wraps, leaving heat for once a week for church and the rare times I have to go into the office. I don't go to an office very often, so I can get away with more. The heat appliances, if you are using them, will definitely pull out any moisture that is there. How are you styling your hair day-to-day?

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

My hairdresser was uing Affirm relaxer for a while and my hair was always dry. But then my hairdresser switched to Fabulaxer and my hair isn't dry anymore.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Adrienne,

You don't take your hair down every day. Ummmm...I have been taking my hair out of the baggie at night and re doing it every morning after I get out of the shower. So how do you rinse your hair daily or do you? Also I guess I was afraid of breakage during the night if I kept my hair up, do you tie your hair up also while in the baggie?

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I use Giovanni's Direct Leave-in and jojoba butter or sometimes I mix it with almond oil.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

When was the last time you clarified? When I have hair problems, this usually does the trick for me

You're so right! Slow me, I just figured that one out this week. I tried Pantene Clarifying Shampoo, and boy did my conditioner seem to work much better.

Ballet Bun ...

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Yes, clarifying is something I recently understood to be important if I did not want my hair to break. After piling on the castor oil to my hair nightly my hair became very dry. I broke down and washed it with Dr. Bronners liquid soap. My hair immediately became moist. It was then that I realize that I needed to not depend on just conditioner washes.

Perhaps you have alot of builup, if not try the Scurl activator to moisten your hair. I really like that one.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Thanks everyone

I deep condition with lekair cholestorol sometimes I also use moisturefuse. I use CPR once a month. I relax my hair every 10 weeks. I forgot what relaxer is in my hair now. I also used pantene clairifying shampoo for the first time last week.
I would LOVE to do conditioner washes but when my hair air drys it gets so frizzy and I hate using alot of heat on my hair ,so if you guys have a suggestion on that it would be great. I use the mango butter but it doesn't help me.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I do put oil on while it's wet

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Good choice Akira and Ballet Bun on the Pantene clarifying 'poo. It's good and it's cheap

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I see you have relaxed hair done every 10wks. Do you know if your hair is over lapped when the relaxer is applied? How did your hair turn out when you clarified? Did it help any? What are you presently using to moisturize your hair and when do you apply it. What sealing in moisture technique do you use? Do you use a leave-in conditioner and if so what product?

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

IHi spagirl, I use alot of oil to moisturize my hair, I also use the mango butter and wild growth on my scalp.I get my relaxers done by a hair dresser so I dont think it over laps. I dont have a moisture seal technique if you coul suggest one that would be great. I really don't use a specific leave in. the pantene cleaned my hair but I couldnt really tell the difference

Can you give me some recomendations thank you

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I think what is called for here is to experiment a little in the realms of what has worked for other. What you might need is some minor tinkering with your present regimen or an overhaul. In order to do an assessment I'm gonna have to ask you some question concerning your routine. That way we all, thank God for this forum, can get a better understanding of what it is you might be needing.

First, it would help to know what is your present hair regimen. 1.Step by step daily hair care. Please include when and how often you shampoo, no poo, deep condition, etc...? 2.I see you use CPR once a month when and how often do you use the other conditioners you mentioned? 3.Heat, when, if at all, do you use it ie. to style, dry, condition hair,etc...? 4.What do you do with your hair before it drys ie. curl it, braid it, leave loose, etc...? 5.Oils, when and how often you use them ie. immediately post washing hair, on dry hair, etc...? 6.When you go to bed do you protect your hair? If so how? 7.Other than Pantene and CPR, what other products have you used and what results did you get. Do you have any keepers? If so, which ones?

I know that's a lot of questions for starting off but I'm trying to view for a bigger picture.

Edited to add: I forgot to ask which type of relaxer do you use Lye or No lye? Is this the relaxer you have always used and have you always had very dry hair?

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Cuz I'm transitioning, I MUST moisturize daily, some times 2-3 times a day. If i don't, my new growth will curl around itself & create a massive tangle
mad.gif

Right now, distilled water sealed by Hot 6 oil or pure glycerin does the deed for me.

Oh, I can't forget S-Curl. That's thick stuff works wonders on keeping my hair moisturized all week

I agree. After conditioner washing, I spray in s-curl, then seal it with Hot 6 Oil while the hair is wet. Once the hair is dried, the oil seals in the moisture. Love these two moisturizing products.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

ok, 1. I wash my hair once a week with Cream of nature poo then I use either lekair cholestorol conditioner or moisture fuse.I don't really deep condition, but I leave the conditioner on for about 15 min with a shower cap.
2.I use the conditioners after every wash. I also try to do CO washes with pantene smooth and sleek once during the week
3. I only use heat when I do a roller set. But latley I've been using my flat iron, but that will be ending soon.
4 I use my dryer for roller sets, but when I do CO washes I leave my hair loose and let it air dry but I put hair oil on my hair when it is wet. I will start rollersetting it too because of frizzies
5 I use oil on wet hair and after my hair drys I have to put oil on my hair everyday!
6. I mormally wrap my hair at night and oil my scalp.
7. Those are the only products I am using right now.
8. I use lye relaxer but this is a different one from the one I normally use, which is Affirm.
thanks Spagirl
ps I dont do hot oil treatments often

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

I use hot 6 oil too on wet and dry hair and I still feel like my hair is dry the next day.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

Okay let me see if I got it. On CO day you leave your hair out and it gets frizzy. Does it also become super dry. What happens when you rollerset and use the dryer. Does it get super dry as well? When you flat iron does your hair get super dry? I'm trying to find out is there anytime in your regimen that your hair doesn't get as dried out.

Re: dry hair, what\'s up with that

When you say your hair is dry so you mean the oil is all soaked in and it doesn't have an oil feel to it or do you mean that your hair doesn't feel soft but it is well oiled?
If none of the above what do you mean when you say dry?
