Dreadlock Extensions (pics!)
I got dreadlock extensions!
I just couldn't take all the maintenance of loose natural hair. It used to take hours to wash and detangle my near waist length hair, and at least a day for my braidouts to fully dry. I'm working full time now, and I don't have the time (or energy) to spend that kind of time on my hair.
I had always planned to lock my hair eventually, but I realized that I can't do it the old fashioned way. My workplace is very conservative, and I wouldn't have been able to go through the messy beginning stages of the locing process.
I started researching dreadlock extensions last summer, and was put off at first by the price. So I decided to go with the cheapest stylists in my area that offered the service. BIG MISTAKE! I ended up getting hustled, not once but twice! The first stylist (Asia in Temple Hills, MD - $500) gave me uneven locks extensions that were full of gel, and washed out pretty easily. The second one (Styles by Aisha in Woodbridge, VA) gave me a mess of track glue and kinky weave that took nearly 2 weeks to comb out. (Styles by Aisha was by far the worst. She was late to each appointment, hustled me out of $700, did an uneven rush job, then cancelled the follow up appointment.)
Last month I decided to try again with Organik Nordaz. Her price was steep ($1,400) but I'm finally happy with the way they turned out. My loctician was amazing. We started at 7 am and didn't finish until 1 am the next day. She didn't do the quick, wrap a loc method. Instead she interlocked my hair, using a latch hook and sisterloc tool. She also used organic products, all things that she had made herself.

Here's what they looked like immediately after she finished.
I love my locs now. My morning routine is super simple; take of my scarf, spritz with water, and go. I've been inspired by youtube videos, and doing all kinds of curly looks and quick updos. Wash days are a cinch. And because of the ease and quick styling, I'm finally able to do daily bikram yoga.
I gave away most of my conditioners and leave-ins. Right now I only use organic, sulfate free shampoo to prevent buildup. But even though I'm locked up now, I still can't bring myself to throw away my Denman brush and seamless comb.

And here they are a month later, after yesterday's quick and easy wash. I'll be going back to my loctician in a few more weeks for a re-twist.

I'm also still holding on to my Cantu Shea Butter leave-in.

They look really nice. I've been researching locs on YT and there seems to be so much to getting the right stylist and using the right method.
