I have a little of this left in my medicne cabinet. I recall my stylist used to use this on my hair after she styled it. The results caused my hair to be shiny, glossy, and silky.

I decided to use it on my hair before I braided it and wrapped it. It says on the label that it contains no alcohol or oil. I checked out the ingredients:

Cyclomethicone
Dimethicone
Isohexadecane
Isosophyl Certyl(sp?)
Aloe Vera
Retinol(Vitamin A)
Tocopheral(Vitamin E)
Ergocalciferol(Vitamin D)

Now the first four ingredients sound like a more complicated way of saying alcohol. So what do you think, is this a good product to use? I noticed that my braids look silky and shiny however so I'm not sure. I would like to invest in it some more if I can or make my own.

Please lend me your opinion on this.

No, they are not a complicated way of saying alcohol. Alcohols will say it in some part of the name (and not all alcohols are bad anyway, but watch out for ingredients like SD Alcohol 40B and the like). The first two ingredients are in fact silicones. Isohexadecane (can be an emulsifying or thickening agent) is a paraffin. I have no clue what the fourth one is. Is it spelled correctly? Do you have the container right in front of you?

I mispelled the fourth ingredient: It is isopropyl myristate. So is this a good product to use??? By the way, I noticed in your pics that your hair is very silky, how do you maintain that everyday? I try to do it but it still seems like parts of my hair is dry while other parts are silky

Ah ok. Isopropyl myristate worries me a bit. It's a product of isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid. It kills me when a product has an otherwise great list of ingredients and then they wanna throw in some random crap that could have been replaced with something better. If used incorrectly and in large enough amounts, this ingredient can cause irritation. Then again so can the chemicals in relaxers... The main reason it's used is because it has somewhat lubricating, non-greasy properties in products. So I'm not gonna say whether this product is good or bad, just proceed with caution.

As for how I get my hair to look and stay silky, CHI SILK INFUSION BABY! I use this once after I have blow dried and before I flat iron my hair and the silky straightness lasts until my next wash.
