i'm transitioning and as my hair growns out i noticed that my curl pattern is changing. my curls are becoming less curlier taking me from a 4a/3c to just a 3c but at the roots!! my origional new growth is still the same so my roots are dang near straight with spiral curls on them. has this ever happened to you? all i'm using is megatek and soon i'll be using JBCO. but can products change your hair texture or as your hair grows out it has more room to be itself lol

Yes I have the same thing. I braid my hair each night so I assumed I was stretching the roots then I saw a curly white friend and I noticed her roots are straight and her hair is very curly. I think it just appears straighter at roots but will curl as it grows. Just a theory.

I think that it depends on your hair texture, my roots are not straight at all they are very tightly curled like the rest of my hair.

My hair when natural is very soft and has about 3-4 different texures mixed in together but it looks like 4a until I hit inbetween EL and NL after that the curl pattern changes and gets looser but I wouldn't put this down to the weight as I do not class my hair as heavy, I see it as just the way my hair grows as I've never felt the weight of my own hair opposed to weaves or braids if that makes sense.

The reason you don't feel the weight of your hair is because hair growth is gradual so you get used to the new weight as it gets longer coz it's not happening in a jiffy as happens when you get weave.

People with really long hair will tell you that it feels heavy when wet again coz the change in "weight" is not gradual: one minute they have hair their scalp is used to, and then next it's like a sponge carrying a lot of weight in liquid.

I don't think you can really know what your true texture is like until you cut off the relaxed hair. Many people will transition for a long time and probably see the "change" you see and then when they cut off the relaxed hair are shocked to find their hair didn't have the loose pattern they thought they saw during their transition.

The bold is so true
You won't know what your hair will look like until you do the big chop. The weight of your relaxed hair will make your texture appear looser. OP, How many months post are you? I wish you luck on your transition.

echoing what the last two ppl said. the weight of hair /relaxed hair can drastically change the appearance of your "roots"

I agree also:yep: Never ever go by what your hair will look like when you still have any relaxed ends on you hair!

Heres my hair a few months into my transition, and a few weeks after my BC.

My curl pattern is totally different!

When I was transitioning I wore microbraids and I paid close attention to my new growth. My NG, with the weight of the micros, had me under the impression I was going to have silky 3c hair.

Once I chopped, my hair in all its 4b glory shined through.

:bump:

I'm dealing with this right now and I'm only 4 months post. But I've noticed that even holding my hair between my fingers up at the crown of my head...my curls are looser without the weight of my relaxed ends pulling it down. what gives??? :perplexed:
