Does This Dress Look Too Cheap?

View attachment 336529 Hi all,

I'm got engaged officially last week, getting married next month and planning the wedding only started last month!!

I'll be married at a registry office in the morning, with a Catholic convalidation (like a blessing) late that afternoon along with my four year old son being baptised at the same service...on my birthday!!

I want a simple gown that will take me from day to night and I'm on a tight budget.

I tried on this dress today:

and it is almost exactly the shape I want top and bottom however I'm concerned that it looks cheap, with the polyester lace, applique on the sleeves and visible seams at the front. I loved it in the shop and other customers said it looks stunning but now I look at it all I see is those seams. I wonder if a tailor could do anything to make it look less cheap?

What do you all think? I'd buy a good corset to wear underneath any dress I eventually purchase..

Thanks ladies for the feedback - Taleah I felt wonderful in it when I tried it on then I got home and looked at the pics and not so keen although it's everything I wanted shape wise the quality of the materials is what's worrying me. Don't want to look cheap on my wedding day. :spinning:

I think it's pretty but it looks a tad small, like one could see the lines of the lining and your shapewear underneath. If you bought it a size bigger and had it tailored down, that might work.

I agree. I'm not a fan. It looks like a lace maxi with bedazzled applique on top. OP, go look at Adriana Papell dresses or Aidan Mattox (I think that's the name of the second designer). They have beautiful, quality white/ivory/creme gowns. Depending on which style you like, you may even get it on deep discount at Nordstrom's or Bloomie's or even Amazon. Honestly, I toyed with the idea of a reception dress just because of how beautiful their gowns were.

Thanks Menina for your suggestions will look into it and thanks all - that dress has been totally scrapped it actually disgusts me lol

Back to the drawing board- I have just over five weeks to find the dress no way I'm looking cheap- my parents just want me to be happy so they're totally happy to chip in I just need to find something I like. I'll update after the big day :-)

Not that you asked but :look: try Dillards, I love this for $65 but it only comes in champagne

If you were my sister, I would tell you not to buy it. You do not want to look back on your wedding pictures and hate your dress.

The dress comes off very cheap, there are some nice options at others stores that are inexpensive. When I tried on my gown I immediately knew it was the one, I was super emotional about it.

No prob, you will find something. I would recommend just going to a major fine department store and looking at the different brands. You can probably get something for under $300.

I'm getting an error msg., but if the ladies here say it looks 'less than best' then you may want to rethink. (Congratulations on your engagement btw)

Thank you all, three months later and I finally update lol but this is the dress I chose.

Was a beautiful day and turned out better than I expected.

Found the dress at a local boutique prom and wedding dress specialist. Went way beyond my budget courtesy of my darling mum who paid for it and for the alterations. It was a lot more wedding-y and dramatic than I thought I wanted and quite heavy but I'm glad I did it 'properly'.
