Does Blowdrying open or close the cuticle?

When i blowdry my hair even with some sort of smoothing product (i.e. frizz ease) the ponytail always seems "bushy". this is even with the dryer on medium-high heat. I prefer not to use any oils because I dont want to weigh my hair down, but i do want that smooth look that I get with a rollerset.

So is it that the cuticle is "opened" with blowdrying or is it "closed" after blowdrying?

I hear that the cool shot button helps close cuticles. Also some heat protection products depending on their ph may assist in closing it too

Hmm, seems to me that heat can open the cuticle.

Try doing a cold water rinse as your final rinse after conditioning. Blow dry on low/medium heat and then use the cold shot button to set the style. It should help a LOT!

I always use heat protectant if I have to blow dry. Lately I ponytail set with heat and then touch up any areas that need it. (I do two or three ponytails) This works for me and I feel like it's way less heat than when I was blow drying.
