Does anyone Shampoo daily??

It does work for some people. Seriously. Specially some people with scalp issues. Nobody should be saying "nobody should do this or that with their hair". I find that offensive. It's their choice. Some people's hair also get build-up very fast, and shampooing daily benefits them.

If someone is shampooing everyday, they probably have a very good reason to do so.

thanks...it's that hair and scalp, leave them alone and let them do what they see fit

Not daily, but about every 2 or so days I shampoo. In the days that I don't shampoo, if its warm enough I co-wash, unless I'm feeling lazy.

After reading everyones thoughts in this thread, I've decided to go CG and see how that works. I swear I need shampoo but if I use products with no cones, I may not need poo!! I will probably still co wash or water rinse daily because I have never been able to achieve 2nd day hair :nono:

Today I mixed Giovanni 50:50 Shampoo with conditioner and water and it worked out pretty good (after I prepooed my hair). I can see doing this 2-3 times a week instead of cowashing and only shampooing when I can't take it anymore.

When I was ignorant about hair, I actually did three days in a row because I had bad psoriasis. What I didn't realise, is that it was making it worse and my hair and scalp became dryer.

I think people shouldn't shampoo that often.

There was a member on the board a few years back who shampooed every single day. She was natural and used J/A/S/O/N's Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner everyday for a long time. Her hair was beautiful. I believe her hair reached below bra strap in a short period of time. I wish I could remember her username!

I've tried shampooing everyday when I was wearing braids. When I removed my braids, my hair was healthy and soft. I had to stop doing it because it made my braids look frizzy to fast! :P

I don't see how shampoo is so harsh...

If your shampoo is harsh and stripping (IMO) maybe switching shampoos would be the best option.

I use shampoo bars and have used black soap in the past and I could see myself shampooing everyday.

Great thread.

I have scalp eczema and I have just realized that I need to use shampoo everytime I wash my hair (lately once a week in twists). That cowashing stuff is not for me - my hair likes it but my scalp gets really nasty buildup. I have been using dr bronners at the advice of another fine lhcf lady and it has been wonderful. I use it on my whole body actually.

Anyway, I think people with no scalp issues can get away with shampooing rarely, but it is not for everyone.

Funny, I wash my hair every other day and I do shampoo on those days and haven't noticed any issues. My new growth actually dries out more if I prolong a wash but once I wash and moisturize my hair feels brand new again. For some odd reason my hair is susceptible to product build up. I mean literally all it takes is a day or two and my hair feels yucky but having said that, I do want to try cowashing but everytime I want to try it, I feel like I need to shampoo to get that yuckiness out.

My coworker (caucasion) actually washes her twice a day on some days. Her hair is extremely oily. I guess it depends on the person and their head of hair. Me, no on a regular basis, however when swimming heavily in the summer, I've washed my hair or daughter's hair multiple times a week with no issues. It's not like your hair is going to fall out...just make sure not to use a shampoo that makes your hair feel stripped.

I'm on day 3 of not using shampoo and my hair feels really moisturized but looks like stringy spaghetti. I'm tempted to shampoo with a sulfate free poo but I'd really like to give this no poo thing a shot. I can not believe I'm sitting staring at my conditioner bottle and my shampoo bottle trying to figure out which one to use!!

Esthi777 how are you making out? It ususally takes a while for the scalp to adjust. If the co washing seems to weigh your hair down too much, you might try just water washing in your daily mix.
Some daily poo products seem to encourage sebum production so it could be in overdrive when you stop until it calms down.

I daily washed this summer but mostly used water or conditioner and just used poo as needed. So far so good. :look:.
HTH

i used to shampoo every time i showered (minimum once a day) for many years w/ no ill effect. i never thought about it all actually; thought it was completely normally. but for those years i also wore my hair quite short so over manipulation wasn't a concern.

IMO shampooing daily for highly textured 4 types with above NL hair would be difficult since for the most part our hair thrives when left alone. I don't think it's the shampoo that's the issue per sé, i think it would be the maintenance after shampooing that i just couldn't take and don't quite see how it would lead to length.

C&G is all about braids tho, amiright? when in braids in the caribbean i wash daily (cuz i'm in the sea daily) but i don't think it's the same as having loose hair.

OT: Loveygram your hair is sick!!! :notworthy

I am convinced that this is what I should be doing because I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis couple this with working out intensely 5-6 days a week and I am asking for scalp trouble if I don't shampoo daily. Unfortunately, the current state of my hair is not conducive to this due to being telaxed, tangle prone, and suffering from low porosity. Lately, I have only been able to do two washes/dc a week and while my hair is doing okay I feel that it would definitely benefit from more frequent washing. In the coming weeks, my plan is to get a corrective relaxer and begin to poo my hair daily and track my progress.
