Does Anyone Else think Shrinkage is a GOOD thing?????

Exactly. You bust your butt to get there and now whoops, it's shorter (or appears that way) How many years did it take to get there, but now you have to go that many to even get it to a length that will look long w/o the shrinkage. What if your MBL to WSl (me) and now you're thinking HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE MY LENGTH SHOWS!!!!!!!!! COME ON! Will it be TBL or BUtt length before it even looks MBL to WSL?!!!!!!nono:

Me and Shrinkage aren't cool

I like my natural texture. a lot. But when I try to wear it out, I know I'll have hell to pay later detangling thanks to shrinkage. I tried just recently to wear a loose ponypuff out of the shower. It was very pretty when the water had my hair kinda stretched, and it was still very pretty when it shrunk. But when I had to go detangle it later it wasn't so pretty..just a headache.

That's my main beef with shrinkage. I can deal with it hiding my true length. I sometimes like the novel shock factor when I straighthen it. I can't deal with it giving me all these knots and stuff that causes me to loose length. So shrinkage and I are not friends.

I'm trying to imagine my hair without shrinkage...and I can't. If I didn't have shrinkage I'd have a completely different texture.

I don't see how it's possible to say you like/love (not really the words I'm looking for but they'll have to do) and then say you wish you didn't have any shrinkage. It seems like an oxy moron to me.

I don't think people mean they wish they didn't have any shrinkage. Then your hair would be like...straight. At least for me, I like my hair as it is stretched or shrunken, but I don't like some things that are caused by shrinkage (i.e knots,tangles). I can't really ever let my hair shrink totally or enjoy it because I know I'm gonna have to be responsible for sorting it out on wash day. If my hair shrunk exactly the same way it does now but magically wasn't as hard to detangle, I think shrinkage and I would be happy campers.

I didn't use to but now i love shrinkage because it hides uneveness. One side of my hair is longer and thicker than other and without shrinkage it would be very noticible.

I will probably appreciate it say.....6 inches of hair down the road.As of right now, however..nope. My hair's at this odd length where it's too short but too long...and funnily shaped o_o. Then it goes and shrinks and gets even weirder looking...

Once it's long and people are thinking I have short hair because of shrinkage and I tug it down my back all seductive-like like WHAT NOW!?! I'll be happy.

i dont mind it, i just didnt like this short phase. BC to shoulder stretched was like twa to 3-4 inch coils. still very short to me. but once i hit shoulder length curly shrinkage wont even on my mind.

You know what's funny? I didn't appreciate it one bit when I was relaxed and constantly straightening my hair. I wanted every millimeter of length to show!

Even though I am relaxed, I am always shrinkified. Can't say I love shrinkage, but I certainly do love new growth and how much fuller my hair is. I do not care for my freshly relaxed hair and I always look forward to several weeks in, when the hair has some weight to it.

Washed tonight, and shrinkage is more than half my length. I tried a banded ponytail, to attempt to show some length, that shrunk too. Oh well, part of being a natural.

I like the "deceptive" nature of shrinkage. You can come in one day with NL hair and the next, BSL Hair! I love it!!

The only thing shrinkage was good for was creating shrunken fros during my TWA days. My shurnken fros looked great and my hair was defined without doing a thing apart from sealing. When my hair got to about SL, shrinkage didn't work in my favour because the texture differences became more obvious. I never quite thought it was the devil or super horrible though; that's a bit extreme. It didn't create manageability issues for me, just styling ones.

If my hair was not stretched when I was SL I had two options: a simple puff or a shrunken fro. At that time it didn't provide a lot of versatility, in fact it limited me greatly. I found that banding my hair or blowing it out at least 70-80% gave me more styling choices. Now that my hair is longer than SL, I can get away with stretching to make it look 30-50% longer if I want to get a chunky afro or do a puff.

I like the shrinkage and find myself playing with my little springs... Although I really didn't know that they would get tangled up in each other. But as others have stated I like the un expected length when measuring.

I luv my shrinkage as well. I like that I go from long (when straight) to "short" and vice versa, without having to do anything permanent. I have hair A.D.D., so having lots of options works great for me. One of the reasons I went natural.

I used to hate shrinkage, but now I appreciate it because it means the hair is healthy and natural (or close to natural). Damaged hair usually doesn't shrink as much.

I do love my shrinkage. It's so versatile. I wear my hair curly all spring and summer and usually won't measure for length. I love that it shocks ME when i first straighten in fall and see how much length i have. But i love even more the comments that I get from others! When I go from curly to straight, everyone including my own family are SHOCKED @ how much longer it is. Comments like "OMG....you're hair is so long i had no idea!!" .... just make my day sometimes I dont know what percentage of shrinkage I have but my is just barely past SL when curly and it's at bsl when straight.

The only thing I don't like is that as of recently, in it's curly state I can no longer wear normal sized hair ties and I can barely get a scrunchie wrapped around it twice without feeling like my head is in a vice.erplexed

I hear/see a lot of ladies complaining about shrinkage, saying things like, "shrinkage is the devil", "I hate you shrinkage", and "Why Lord, Whyyy Shrinkage???" because it gives the illusion of having shorter hair for a longer period of time and because it is SOOO resilient but.......I LOOVE it!! I just feel like there are so many benefits from it..for instance, I think with shrinkage it will be easier to get past shoulder length without all of the friction of my ends rubbing up against my collar. Also, its like the best of both worlds..so much versatility!! You can have shoulder length hair one day and mid-back the next. Come on now..who can't appreciate that?? Is there anyone else who appreciates shrinkage?? Or am I just crazy???

Amen!!! Back in the day I would have said that you're crazy but I know how to handle my natural hair properly and have come to see shrinkage as just another lovely aspect of my hair

In the attached pic was after i got a really good trim. It was full shoulder length when straightened however At that length I hated it. However now that my hair is getting longer the shrinkage isnt as bad but still shrinks. I like it because once its fully dry I dont have to worry about my hair brushing up against my clothes.

The only problem that I really have with shrinkage is that it's so much worse in the back than in the middle and front. So, in the back I look almost natural, but in the middle and front it's just a little puffy and can be fixed when I blow dry or flat iron. if everything shrank evenly I don't think I'd mind as much because it's like a little surprise when I do relax, and see where my hair really is length-wise.

I never thought of this. Another good thing would be the WOW factor you would get from having a shrunken fro one day and then hair down your back the next day. That's why I don't too much care for shrinkage BUT i wish sometimes it wouldn't shrink up AS much.

ME!!! I love my hair the way it shrinks all its kinks and coils sometimes it happens right before my eyes.

Shrinkage is part of the nature of my hair. The best thing I've learned when it comes to my hair is to work WITH it and its nature rather then working against it and since taking that approach my hair has thrived
