I'm texlaxed and failure to detangle before washing/cowashing, etc. can cause mats, but I findmyself constantly running my hands through my hair, to the point that it may be obsessive.

I don't think I'm really pulling anything out from the root, :perplexed but if nothing else, I think it's taking too much time. Checking for the root bulb on hairs all day long!!!

Do you mean pulling so hard that you pull your hair out? Because that's OCD.

I twirl my hair all day like a school girl (I'm 38 mind you) and its caused one side to be shorter than the other. Ugh! Yeah I am trying to stop. If this is what you have then its HIAD (Hair in Afro Disease LOL )

yeah! i never did this when I was bonelaxed.

It's kind of a mix of clearing shed strands and feeling up the natural roots!!! :lick: I love napps!

I'm guilty of twisting my hair :hide:
But that's ONLY after it's been flat-ironed and mainly when I'm driving. I wouldn't dare pull it hard enough to come out though. At least I hope I'm not pulling it that hard to eventually come out.

I pull my hair all the time, and shed hairs come out. I think that I should stop, but I figure, if it was going to shed, it would eventually shed on its own anyway.......

OMG - BostonMaria, i do this too - have since i was like 6 or 7 and i CANT STOP. Even when i have a bun, if one little curl/twirl peeps out, i HAVE to play with it. I dont even realize im doing it till its too late. This is why wash and gos scare me - my fingers cant resist the curls being LOOSE - and i feel the manipulation causes splits :(.

FluffyRed - i finger comb my hair alot and hair comes out. I dont think im pulling my hair purposely, just detangling, but of course alot of shed hairs come out. I could do it LESS, but i like to make sure i get all the snarls out and i dont think it has become obsessive yet.

I play in my coilies sometimes.

I also search for single strand knots and either cut, yank out or snap them off. - That's BAD.

I'm really working on this.
