Do you use more than recommended?

When using whatever product on your hair, do you use more than the recommended amount? The reason why I ask is I was on Macherie's site yesterday and she talked about the amount of product to use. She was using like quarter and half-dollar sized amounts. I felt like I was taking crazy pills:lachen: I know darn well that if she only needed that little amount on her beautiful mane of hair she has, I was going hella overboard! LOL Are you guilty of this too?? Please tell me I'm not alone...:look:

you are not!! I used to feel like if I used more it would work better.... Now I use the quarter size amount and my hair comes out shimy and bouncy!!!:yep:

Yes, when it comes to leave-ins, oils and moisturizers. And It costs me money and time because I'll have to rewash my hair to get out the gunk. You're best bet is to put a little (dime to-quarter size) on your wet hair, wait until it dries and then add more moisturizer if needed.

That's funny you mention this. I was doing the exact same thing until i saw Macherie's tutorials like the prepoo, deep conditioning, rollerset dvd, etc. Now i too use a quarter size. A little bit does indeed go a long way.:yep:

when it comes to rollersets, definately the less the better. I was always using so much lacio lacio and wondering why my hair was so stiff and not airy and bouncy like everyone else reported :wallbash:

If I had only followed the directions, lol. I now use only a dime sized amount and rub my palms together with the product before applying (very important step) . Now my rollersets come out soft and silky.

But with DC's, applying a lot seems to work better for me. I tried applying to towel blotted hair like macherie's video but my hair came out hard and started breaking a lot.

I do with leave-ins and oils especially. I used to use a ton of leave-in until it gunked up my hair. Now I just use a little.

I just use a little bit because I don't like to use a lot of product. But I do use a lot of conditioner though.

Yeah I definately have heavy hand syndrome. :yep: Too much conditioner and too much oil = greasy limp hair
All around it's a bad habit... it gets expensive and it does terrible things to my hair :nono:

me too...I have to see the conditioner on my hair:ohwell:

Yep- lots of conditioner- I just wanna feel that my hair is coated. I guess I could try to use less- maybe I'll start that with the leave-ins and things though. I don't know:perplexed

Yes, I am very heavy handed when using product. I've gotten better with using less product since joining LHCF though. On the stuff that just needs to use up though...I'll pour it up like I'm popping bottles at a club especially conditioner.

Yes I use more than the recommended amount of conditioner and my hair has thanked me for it:yay:.......

I saw video as well but my hair requires more coating than what I saw macheri do to her hair.

My hair soaks up product. I slather on conditioner. I use just enough leave in to get my hair where I need it. My hair has movement doing this. The dime size thing don't work for me unless were talking serum. Whatever part of my hair that tiny amount touches it will stay there and not distribute enough when it comes to leave ins. The exception is silicon mix leave in. I trashed my keracare leave in and oil moisturizer because to use sparingly, my hair wouldn't recieve any benefit. If I used what I felt was enough, it was too much. I love thin leave ins like lacio lacio that I can apply as much as I want without it being too much.

I saw the video and tried to stop but that's a hard habit to break. I don't feel right applying a quarter size amount-unless it's to each and every section:look:

When I first started, I used to use so much misturizer it would make my hair damn :ohwell: now I use about a quarter size amount and it's great.

But with conditioners, I have to use a lot.... Gotta feel like it's working ;)

I agree. when it comes to styling, little product works the best.

But when it comes to prepooing and DCing, my hair soaks up that stuff like a sponge. I have very kinky 4b relaxed hair and my hair needs A LOT of moisture applied while it's in its wet state. It also doesn't like to be flat ironed or made really straight. Once I learned those two things, I felt like I'd really found my hair's personality!

yes, when styling less is best- i use 2 quarter size.
but when deep conditioning i need more, infact my hair just soaks up conditioner, i never get slip after deep conditioning because most of the product is absorbed and this happens with all conditioner, i have to follow my deep conditioning with more deep conditioner and leave on for 2-3 min and rinse except i get tangled mess.

Since watching Macherie's video about a month agao, I have tried using less product. Not a little as she does, but less than before by sectioning my hair and applying small amounts of conditioner on the sections making sure to get the roots until all of my hair is coated. I have learned I do not have to see the conditioner on my hair to know it's working.

Yes, I always use more than recommended. IDK how people use quarter sized amount of anything. My hair isn't even long but a quarter or dime size isn't gonna get onto all my hair.

When I hear "dime-sized" and "quarter-sized" amounts, I'm always like :giggle: Maybe those amounts are for straightened hair, because a quarter-sized amount would be enough for like 1/16 of my napps (I keep my hair in 16 braids and that amount would cover like one braid). I definitely use more than recommended and I have tried using recommended amounts with ZERO results (and even terrible tangling).

I use loads of conditioner, always more than the recommended amount.

But with styling products, I find that less really is more.:yep:

a quarter size does nothing for my hair LOl

I put like a palm size amount

Thats how much I use, lol! Especially when it comes to conditioner. I just keep squirting until my hand is completely full. Any less than that and there is no way I'm getting a comb through my mop!
