I know it's a silly thread, but just out of curiosity, do you ladies share all of your secrets with non-members? Do you just give them a "lil somethin" to live with? We are asked all the time "ooh, what do you do with your hair, and what do you use". Do you all share this website?
As for me, um, I give a lil something. I don't share all. LOL:look:, but as for close ppl, i may share all.

Tried to do poll. Oh well.

I share all that I try, learn use and know, what works and how and what I believe strongly in and what I DONT=known for that :lachen:

Well I told a few of my closest friends about the site. If someone not so close asks me about me or my daughters hair then I give them some of the things that I do. If they seem interested enough to actually follow through then I will I will tell them about the site. Some people look at me like :ohwell: when I tell them that I subscribe to a hair forum. And honestly of the handful of people I have told only 2 have joined. The other people comment on how my hair is growing etc but have no real interest in properly maintaining their hair. So I keep it to myself.

So to answer your question. I love to share what I have learned and encourage others to gain more knowledge about the health and maintenance of our hair. But in general no matter what the state of their hair they don't seem to have much interest in trying. I hear things like my hair will never grow past NL or my hair is different so I have learned to keep my mouth shut with them

ETA: I told a friend how to care for her daughters hair during the summer while she was swimming and her hair has flourished. My friend told me that even when she went to the salon for her back to school hair appt. that the stylist was happy with the growth she achieved with no damage. So that was a good feeling.

I'll tell whoever will listen to me. Sometimes I get weird looks when I mention co-washing, not cutting my hair, taking things like olive oil and putting it in my hair.

Yeah I'll tell people, but I don't always get a good reaction.

I do sometimes, if I feel the wanna hear it/deserve the knowledge. I have one friend who asks but doesn't deserve the knowledge cos she doesn't really wanna hear about protective styling, not using pink oil, cowashing etc but makes snide comments. I'll just show her when my hair is at BSL and hers is ear length :giggle:

yeah i've told like 3 people. my mom and a few girlfriends. one jus looks at me like i'm crazy and the other one was soooo excited. i showed her pictures and she was like omg they're giving me hope!! she's noticed a change in my hair so she knows what i'm tellin her isn't a bunch of bull. it's still short but it looks healthier day by day

I've told all of my close friends, they're kind of just like - well good for you, but they're not believers yet. Trying to convince my mom, but she's old school and not interested in all of this new age stuff. Like quote, 'washing your hair all the time' - gives me the :nono: face. But when I told her about MTG she said she was going to order it. Hope she gets me a bottle too! As far as acquaintances, I'd be happy to give them a little something if they ask, but otherwise I don't make an effort to share what I know if its not requested.

i don't share much info at all and i don't talk about this site. i do tell someone that is already natural or just became natural to go to websites that cater to natural hair only. if a person is not into hair like you, then you are pretty much wasting your breath. they will look at you crazy and think you spend too much time, money, and energy on your hair. they have negative feelings about natural hair and AA hair in general.

if i were you, i wouldn't say nothing else. i would just let my hair do the talking and we those people see how your hair is healthy and long, then the questions will start coming. sometimes you just have to walk by example.

Well I'm willing to share with anyone who is interested but really no one ever is. If I'm ever asked it never goes further than,"What do you use?"

Random Strangers: When I'm asked, I give info in stages--if they start to get that glazed look in their eyes or proceed to tell me I'm washing my hair too much, I just have hair like that, blah blah blah, I just politely end the convo. I rarely get to even mention the site--people usually ruin it for themselves with their negative response (even though THEY approached me--I don't mention hair unless asked). I figure when they're ready, they'll find it.

I don't necessarily wait to be asked. However if it comes up in conversation, I definitely will talk about 'haircare'. But I have a lot of times struck up conversations that lead to mutual discussion about Do's and Dont's.

only when asked, and i only give them the basics (like deep conditioning and moisturizing, drinking water, and wearing silk scarfs) but even then people really don't want to know mainly because it "sounds like a lot of work and my hair is'nt going to grow anyway" (that's usually the comment they make).

I USED TO GIVE ALL THE INFO IN DETAILS(PREPOO...WASH 2x'S A WEEK/D/C W/ EACH WASH...ETC ETC). THEY WOULD GIVE ME STRANGE LOOKS AND SAY THAT I WASH MY HAIR TOO MUCH....(THEN PROCEED TO DO THE SAME THING I WAS DOING, AND ACT LIKE THEY CAME UP WITH IT ON THERE OWN)...SO NOW...ONLY WHEN ASKED AND I KEEP IT SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE....

Not like I qualify to teach anyone on LHCF anything about hair yet - I'm still learning. But yeah, I think I pretty much share most of what I've found works so far.

So, does like any one tell ppl about like Mega Tek? I find it hard to believe that ppl don't believe what we do, when they see evidence.

Not really, because once I say something that someone doesn't agree with or think is absolutely ridiculous...all they hear is:blah: or look like this

Especially when I say something along the lines of I don't brush my hair. Or I wash it with baking soda or only with conditioner on certain days... I just rather leave them wondering. By saying...oh nothing out of the norm :look:

I tried to tell ppl about MN and I got the blank stare of a Deer stuck in headlights-look. So let it go. But if asked about my growth, whatever its attributed to, I will share.

This is a very interesting subject because ever since I have been here my hair is looking better and better and people react to it. However, if I say much of anything, it is always negative. Some examples:
"You are washing your hair with conditioner....girl, please!!"
"You have nice hair, my hair could never get that long."
"Girl, please...I need heat for my type of hair."
"Damn, you don't go to the salon...you must have 2 much time on your hands."
" If it was all mine, I would have it so straight and pretty, you need a stylist to help you with all that hair. You can't do your hair without a brush, it's to much."

So, "hence my siggy", I am over lazy, smack talking people that have NO CLUE!!! I am NEVER telling anyone anymore!

On a positive note, THANKS LADIES for helping me with my hair care!!!!!:grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin:

If someone asks for my help I would offer it and metion this site as well. If they don't ask or we're not having a conversation about hair I won't...I wouldn't want anyone to get a tude with me and tick me off. Some people don't like being given advice if they don't want it.

I learned not to give advice when people don't ask for it. But I did tell my mom and my sister about LHCF. I would be willing to share LHCF with anyone that inquires about my hair. However, I do agree with some of the ladies on here when it comes to getting weird looks. If someone thinks it's ludicrous to use olive oil or horse shampoo on your hair I lose the motivation to provide advice.

nope. until there is a big difference in my hair, i dotn say anything about hair or this site. no one will take me seriously now.

i don't tell anyone because it's like people will look at your hair and be like 'hmph, it doesn't look THAT great' ..it's like people will only take your hair advice if your hair is down to your waist. So i typically don't tell anyone because people typically won't take hair advice unless they have hit rock bottom with their hair, and they look at as if you're criticizing them if you give them tips.

Only in bits and pieces and only if they ask (unless it's family and their hair is jacked). Any more than that and I fear they will become intimidated and not do anything at all. Example:

1. I'm just trying to get my aunt to WASH her hair every time she goes for a swim in our CHLORINATED pool and then use CONDITIONER...any conditioner. Then we can move on to deep conditioning, etc.

2. I'm trying to get my mother and sister to commit to DEEP CONDITIONING their hair every week. I'm also working on getting them to use a HEAT PROTECTANT and blow dry and iron their hair only on a MEDIUM setting, etc. (A few months ago we were on vacation and we had a suite so I was in the living section. My sister was in the bathroom, but through the mirror I saw her curling her hair with my mother's flat iron. I saw SMOKE!)

3. I'm trying to get my friend to not iron her hair with OIL in it, etc. and then tell me that her hair doesn't grow below grazin' shoulder length.

Ain't no way I can tell these folks anything about protein/moisture, product content, etc. until I get them to adapt these simple habits. Plus, I like to try a product/method out for success before I recommend it. I don't need anybody coming back and telling me that their hair fell out because of something I recommended.

Almost everyone knows I'm hair obsessed, so all of my friends call me for hair advice. :look: I mean, really, I can't imagine not sharing what I've learned with people I actually know, considering I'm sharing it with all of you fabulous ladies that I've never set eyes on.

What they do with the information is out of my hands - it might go in one ear and out of the other, but hey - I did what I could do.
