Do you lose less, more, or the same.....

amount of hair while during the low manipulation regime.

Personally, I would wash my hair once a week and I did not like to see the ball of hair I would lose in 1 week. Then you reason, well this has been 5-6 days worth of natural shedding. I just started doing conditioner washes 3 times a week using my indian powders leaving the conditioner on for a short amount of time two times out of the week, and once during the week I would do a deep condition leaving the conditioner on for 1 hour. My hair is soooo soft and moisturised that I found that I didn't have to separate my hair into sections to detangle, I use my pick/comb and after spraying on some mane and tail detangler and I just gently comb my hair using my fingers and pick as I go along and it detangles in less than 2 minutes. Now the good thing is, I get to see how much hair I lose every time I condition wash and I lose very little hair. I have been during this for about 2 weeks, and I was just curious to know if anyone else is losing less hair, more hair, or same amount of hair by during the low manipulation regime. I'm finding personally with myself, that I am losing less hair by doing my hair at least 3 times a week. I have never really did conditioner washes before and I am loving this. My hair seems to be responding to them as well. I want to do these conditioner washes until the weather gets cold.

Less.

I only detangle once a week and I get usually a small hair ball of about 40/50 hairs. Sometimes more or less depending on how funny my hair wants to act.

The other days of the week I fingercomb and probably lose about 20 hairs each day from that.

I don't co wash though. Doesn't work for me.

I do them if I need a quick wash, but I deep condition afterwards.

bumping.

I would like to know the answe to this question as well.

Because when i wash my hair every week, I get a hiar ball about the size of a quarter and i start to get worried and shake.

Is this normal or am i lossing too much hair?

I lose less on low manipulation. I generally wash and detangle once a week. Since others had said that if they do it more often that it becomes easier, I tried doing it more frequently. I cowashed or washed every day to every other day and detangled with a shower comb in the shower with my hair loaded in conditioner. It is true that it got easier. Instead of 45 min to 1 1/2 hrs detangling, I got it down to 10-15 minutes each time. But not trusting this routine I was taking regular pictures of my hair every few days and over the course of 2 weeks I broke at least 1/2" of hair off. In just 2 weeks! I stopped, of course, but at least the way I tried it I realized that that is just too much manipulation for me. Even though I was seeing less hair each time, I was breaking it off more often, so the end result gave me more breakage.

I'm a relaxed head and I have begun for about a month now low manipulation including roller sets, flexirod sets, and buns. I personally loose about 50-100 hairs a day, especially in the summertime. I don't think I loose less hair with low manipulation. I just think I don't notice the hair shedding on a daily basis because I am not combing my hair daily. When I shampoo condition my hair, I have the same amount of hair loss. I don't co-wash anymore, it dosen't work for me. However, I do feel like I am putting less stress on my hair which I hope will continue to keep my hair thick and healthy.

I definitely lose less. I have a normal amount of shedding, but I don't have the breakage that would come from combing and brushing through my hair during the week.

I'm not sure.
Detangling is definitely easier when I fingercomb daily, but I'm PARANOID about losing length by doing it.
*sigh*
I don't FEEL or see myself breaking any hairs (fingercombing, slowly, working though knots, examining the hair that do come out to insure they are mostly sheds), but I'm still scared that I'm giving myself mini-haircuts. :perplexed

I only use a comb once a week, period. That's my 'compromise'.

It's interesting seeing the different responses to this thread. I don't want to sacrifice less hair loss for breakage because I am doing condition washes every other day. My hair texture is already fine, but I have sooo much volume so it appears to be thick. I will definitely keep a watchful eye on my hair because I do not want it to thin out or break. I believe the indian powders are soooo very good in making your hair manageable and tangle free which I believe is another reason why I am losing less hair. I noticed that my hair ends use to shed a alot, but that seems to be decreasing since I have been using a conditioner that has collagen protein and then I add a few drops of saa. I have also been oiling my scalp with supi's hair oil follow with OCT or MegTek. My hair is responding very well. Sometimes we think it may be one thing but it may be several things that is attributing to our hair success. Anyhow, I appreciate the responses and will be on the alert for any signs of breakage because of my frequent condition washes/combing.
