Do you ladies sometimes get discouraged???

Okay, yesterday I went to the dominican Salon, a cheap one where its $15 for a wash set and blow. Its not the $33 one that I always go to, because since I don't have a job, I have to alternate when and when I go to my fav salon "Reactions." Where they originally cut it and treat it, to how it is now. Well anyways, at this salon yesterday, this woman who was doing my hair tells me that I need a trim, and Im like, I just got a trim like 5 or 6 weeks ago, so what are you talking about. My hair doesn't break off like that unless Im combing it hard and rip or tear it out by mistake, I was and deep condition my hair every week, get Apohgee treatments and NOW I NEED A TRIM???? Come on now, I got heated while she was blowing out my hair and was just like I trimmed my hair recently and she tells me - oh well whoever cut it, did it uneven, look at my pics y'all don't you think I would know if my hair was uneven or not, my hair is cut into a blunt which you can see, the front of my hair on the right side "WAS" breaking off because some woman decided to put crazy glue in my hair when she was doing it and it was week from all the pulling and tugging of trying to get the glue out, but that was like October and it continued to break off until I got my cut about 6 weeks ago. But I know its growing back and no one could tell me anything but it just pissed me off that she could say that, saying that my ends are messed up when I know that they are not, I do not see my hair falling out or shedding much or not at all. Not even during wash time when my hair dresser does my hair, does hair come out in the comb. So tell me??? I want my hair to grow out, and when it comes to situations like this I get soooooooo discouraged. Tell me, what do you think about my hair??? Does it look uneven to you and my ends messed up??? Cause honestly I do not see it, my friends do not see it, my mom does not see it. So what is it??? And you know the woman had to nerve to sit and say oh I was just trying to let you know. Let me know what - crap man I tell you. I want to know if she was looking more money - or she one of them damn cutting happy stylist. No, Im not letting anyone cut or trim my hair except who I first let do it.

Your blowout looks great! Before the trim, your hair looked healthy, but your ends look much healthier after the trim. Don't sweat her cutting those thin ends off. Would you rather have long thin hair that's prone to break or long thick hair that looks nice? Now you can start off fresh with thicker ends. You will not regret it! ;)

I do not think you read my post correctly. Where my ends are thin that was almost 2 months ago, actually that was two months ago. look at the lastest pictures. The first picture with the blunt cut is my starting point for January 2005. The last pictures just show progress from then on. And She wanted to trim my hair, after it was trimmed about 2 months ago. I DID NOT LET HER TRIM MY HAIR, IF THAT IS WHAT YOU THOUGHT. The last few pics is how my hair now, and that is what she said is damaged and needs to be trimmed.

OOHHH!!!! I was a lil' confused for a sec. Like DSD said, I don't know what that lady is talking about! Those last pics of your hair look nice, even, and healthy! So don't let her discouraged you!

I think sometimes hairstylist want to get extra money for trims, so they will tell you that you need one. One time this horrible hairstylist screwed my hair up and i was so disappointed and angry, and she had the nerve to say that my hair didn't look good because i needed a trim. I was like, "no, my hair doesn't look good because you don't know what you're doing!" I think she just wanted extra money, so you have to watch out for people like that.

I agree. She was trying to shake you down.

your hair looks fine! I'm glad you stood up to her and not allow her to cut your ends. Often times [women] are too afraid to speak up to the stylist and let them know what'a up...don't be afraid to because if you do it gets in the way of your hair growth progress. BTW if this stylist does not listen you maybe its time to find a new one.

Actually that is not my actual hair dresser, I just went there because it was cheap, $15. I usually go to my hairdresser which charges $33 and they are the best. But can't pay $33 every week, not economically sensible for I am a college student and you know college students are broke! LOL

Your hair looks fine to me, too. Some stylist really believe that your hair has to be even all the way around if it's not cut in layers on purpose and that if your hair grows in layers naturally, you should lop it off and make it even.

I'm glad you didn't let her trim away your growth because if you just got a trim, chances are you don't need another one that soon!

have u ever tried doing your own hair? that'll save you A LOT of money. I'm a college student too and either my mom and myself has always done my hair. I've gone to a salon maybe a few times in highschool to get my hair done for a prom or dance and just recently went to one for a trim but that's it. :yep:

ShariRaquel, your ends look thick and healthy. I've come to believe that some hairdressers are just scissor-happy and it doesn't matter what's actually on your head, they just want to cut. Good for you for standing up for yourself!

ETA: To answer the title of your post, yes, at times I get discouraged...like right now. I went to a stylist this past Wednesday who told me the same thing you heard, i.e., my ends need to be cut b/c "they are so damaged and look terrible." I'm on the baggie challenge, and have cared very well for my ends for the past few years -she's also the one responsible for "trimming" off 4 inches, so I know she was hating. You're not alone, SR.
