Do you go to a confessional or confess you sins to a Priest/Pastor? Why or why not?

I do not b/c I don't feel there's another person on the earth that can "absolve" me of my sins (if I'm correct in understanding the confession-if I'm wrong let me know). I speak to Jesus because he knows my heart. :D

We were Catholic when I was little. I remember them having a confession for kids with the priest, but he wasn't in the booth. We would just talk to him face to face.

Did you like doing this? I assume from your post that you no longer do this, may I ask why?

Ooh... this sounds like a trick question! (smirk!) I do not confess at a confessional, but we are supposed to confess our sins to the Lord and to one another (directly) in terms of if we have sinned against or offended our brother or sister:

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:15-17 (in Context) James 5 (Whole Chapter)

Proverbs 28:13
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

That's why I couldn't choose any of the poll questions. There may be a situation where you might have to go to the pastor or priest to confess something but that doesn't mean that that's enough in terms of following through with the repentence/forgiveness part.... In this case, I see the priest/pastor as an intervening figure between the two HUMAN parties, as Jesus is our intercessor between the human and God the Father. That thing has to be right with thy brother directly before coming to offer a gift unto the Lord.

Matthew 5:
23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

It's so funny you asked this question, b/c over the last few weeks, I have been considering doing this. I was raised Christian (not Catholic), so I never had the confessional experience.

I had been praying for deliverance in an area of my life, and I confessed my wrongdoing to the Lord, but I felt like I wanted to talk with someone. I may do this in the future.

We switched to a Baptist church when I was 12, so I never had the opportunity to do it again.

From what I remember, it was comforting. The priest didn't try to pretend that he was God or anything. I can remember him telling me about Jesus, and that Jesus watches over me and that God will forgive me for the things that I do that aren't pleasing to Him.

Would I do it now? Probably not, but I actually did like the Catholic church. I went through my classes and did first communion and all that good stuff. I was young then, so I don't remember all of the teachings and how they differed from other Christian churches, but I do remember a few things. There was a total lack of pretense and show. Service was straightforward. The Bible was taught, and we reverenced the Spirit.

Don't need to....Jesus died for my sins...if I have a problem...I pray and confess to Him. If I need to talk to someone, I will go to my pastor.

I am Catholic. I go to confession. I confess my sins to God by the time I get to the preist most of my sins are already been told to God. I like to think of it as a way to discuss some issues with the pastor. I do like the face to face confessions.

I totally agree, I said I did --but do not anymore. I went to a church that we had to confess our sins to our disciple partner, I had the most embarassing sin to confess but I could not enjoy service or take communion until I did so. I hated doing it but I always felt better afterwards but ashamed that I told someone. I think you also confess your sins so that someone can pray for you. David confess his sins and then went to God and openly admitted to his sins, what a release that must have been for him. I do not do it anymore because I left the church and now I think differently about confession. I believe it but not to the extinct that I did before. In other words I believe if I sinned againts someone I should confess to them and ask them for forgiveness and what ever I do to myself I confess to God- that is only if Intend to never do it again and I am honestly sorry for it. Thats my opinion.

I could not have said it better. I totally agree.
