Do I shampoo after using a Ayurveda paste?

Hey ladies, do I shampoo my hair before I put the Ayurvedic powder in my hair, after, or just go straight to conditioner? I done Ayurveda powder treatments in the past, but I didn't think I was getting benefits. Now that I figure out what I was doing wrong, putting to much water in it, I am willing to give it another try.

I've tried both co-washing and shampooing after treatments, and co-washing wasn't enough for me, yet I felt that shampooing was defeating the purpose. My hair still felt like it had build up with just co-washing alone (I do my ayurvedic oil/paste treatments as prepoos). So as of right now I'm using aritha (soapnut) tea rinses as a method of cleansing and getting rid of build-up. If you want to try it, all you have to do is take a bit of aritha powder (you can mix certain other herbs with it, if you want) and pour boiling hot water over it. Let it steep until it cools (the brew has to be strong), and after you rinse out your treatment, pour the tea over your hair and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and co-wash afterward. This way I get the best of both worlds, mild yet efficient cleansing without over stripping.
