Dilemma...I need urgent advice!!

I was part of a lay off from my job in January and have been on a contract assignment ever since. I just found out on Thursday that my contract is about to end next Thursday and it's time for me to start interviewing again. My problem is that I'll be 20 weeks post on Monday, and even though I wear my hair in buns everyday, my hair still poofs up because of the new growth. I use non-alcohol gel because the other ones really dry out my hair. I've tried jam and similar products but they don't really work for me. Do you ladies think that I should go ahead and relax my hair now? I know this may be silly but a manager is really interested in me for position and I may have an interview next week.

Please respond ladies....I really need your help.

Would a wig be an option for you?
I have never wore one before, but that is a thought. But I really think it would be too hard with all of this humidity. My head would sweat in a second.

I Would Relaxe It The Job Is Inportant, And You Need To Look Professional In Todays Market. Tomany People Are Out Of Job To Let You Miss Or Think You Missed Oportunity Do To Your Hairstyle.

Are you using gel on damp hair? That seems to work best for me.

I'll wet my hands and run them through my hair. Then I'll add a leave in conditioner, then a little gel (I sometimes add a little oil, not grease, to the gel). I use a Denman brush to set the roots into place, before pulling my hair into a ponytail/bun/puff. You can help set it by placing a scarf around your hair for a little while.

You will not need to wet the entire length of your hair unless you choose to.

I went on a job interview with very poofy hair about 3 weeks ago and I got the job. I wore my hair out that day.

I think if your hair is pulled back in a bun and you put on a pair of simple earings that would look quite nice and very professional.

Good luck with interviewing :)

I'm not naive, but I think its sad that we feel like we have to relax our hair in order to get a job or fit in with "corporate America." I say as long as your hair is clean and off your face and not weird colors like green or pink, that's professional.

I had a boss who said that when she hired me, she thought my hair looked really professional because it was in a bun (I wear a bun 99% of the time.) I don't think you need to relax your hair for a job interview. You'll do great.

I agree. No need to relax. I also got my current job with a bun and I'm not at all relaxed. I still wear my hair in a bun to work everyday.

If you want to continue on your stretch, I recommend doing a braidout. I wore a braidout to my last interview and I got the job. I wouldn't get a relaxer for the interview, unless YOU want to, because you can always rock a bun too. Dress your bun up with chopsticks, add some earrings. I wouldn't worry about it though :) .

I agree with the ladies who suggested putting your hair in a bun. You could do it while your hair is wet or dry. If I am stretching or just don't have time to do anything else, I will wet my hair while showering and put a little conditioner on. Then, I usually do a side part and use Suave holding gel and some mango butter to smooth my hair down with a brush. I usually leave the ponytail out and let it air dry for a curly look. You could also do your bun like this. IMO, this looks as professional as a freshly relaxed hairstyle. Good Luck and hope that helps! :)

20 weeks post ...dayum! you go girl. If you can wear it in a nice slick down bun, by trying what the ladies suggested by doing it wet...then go that route. Unless you want to perm. It wont be a bad thing to perm...unless you are trying to go natural...In which case I would opt for a bun, and not relax.

mmm..I didn't get the sense that the OP wanted to "fit in" but moreso wanted to be comfortable and thus confident in our interview. Its almost like not having the whole outfit complete without that ONE needed accessory.
