Okay, so I had a stylist use this on my hair and I lurve it - the best relaxer I have ever used. THEN, I found out that only a license holder has to ORDER it :wallbash:

But wait, I found a site online where I can order it :yay:

So, I'm going to self relax using it :yay:

question - do you apply this like a regular relaxer? Apply, smooth, wait 15 or so minutes? The thing is, my old stylist used this and there was no burning, tingling whatsoever.

Your thoughts?

Oooh ooooh, what site did you find the relaxer on? This past relaxer the hairdresser used it and I like it. I told her I usually have problems with reversion or the perm not getting my hair straight enough and she used this perm and I like it! I'd like to order it.

In the past this was the only relaxer I used and I loved it. However, I had a hard time finding a stylist who uses Design Essentials when I moved. But I do agree it is a good relaxer.

You could add Silk Amino Acids, I heard that's good for relaxers, you an order it from lotioncrafters.com, some ladies add oil. I would probably use it like a regular relaxer, do you remember how the stylist applied it?

I ordered the Conditioning Cream Relaxer (Regular)

Thanks for the link ! She used the one you bought... the regular strength. I can't wait to get it. The only thing is, b/c my scalp is a bit sensitive, next time, I'll make sure to drench my scalp in castor oil to prevent burning. This really works for me and I've been doing it since I joined the board, but lately I've been not basing or basing my scalp with grease type products and it doesn't work, the castor oil really does the trick for me

I bought a 4 lb tub of mine off of EBAY last year. VERY good seller. I think I paid $30-$35 or so. That's half of how much one touch up would cost me.

My stylist uses this on me. I base my scalp with Summit's base starting the day before I relax. I base evening and then the next morning. Absolutely no burning.

you're welcome :yep: Castor oil - good tip

Thanks for the recommendation! I don't remember how she applied it, but I do she was mixing it up or mixed something in it like she's a chemist (all secretive) :sekret: She also applied it, smoothed it and rinsed out / neutralized about 15 or so minutes later... I'm curious as to what she was mixing in a little container. You ladies to self relax with Design Essentials, do you have to mix anything in it? I know we can add olive oils, amino acids, etc. but DE is sold pre-mixed, right?

yep, yep. I saw an Ebay seller - they were selling it for $32, but shipping was $16! Not cool :nono:

Summit's? Where do you get it?

Do you ladies use lye or no-lye? I've used DE no-lye and I wasn't crazy about it. Although I prefer using no-lye, I'd be willing to try the lye version if the reviews are good. TIA:grin:

I used this for the first time just last week and I like it but if you don't want a texturizer than this is not for you. I left it in for 15 minutes (I normally do 10 for fear of over-processing) and at 15 minutes I got the perfect texlax!

It's a keeper!

I used lye - love it!

Why not try the lo-lye relaxer? My stylist used that when I had streaks in my hair.

I haven't thought of trying the lo-lye - that might work for texlaxers.

yes, it processes quickly!

thanks MonaRae. Telaxing may be what I need, as opposed to relaxing bone straight, b/c my strands are fine and the corrective I had done in December(was HORRIBLE...... completely over processed).

ETA: ladies do you feel that the DE is making your hair appear to be thicker at all? I was searching the forum for old posts/thread and saw where one person credited the DE relaxer for making her hair thicker in a way.

Yes, it is a good relaxer I used it for a while. It does not get your hair as straight as affirm though, but that could be good depending on the look you are going for. I think you can get it on designessentials.com also!

Ladies have any of you heard of the time release special relaxer they have? If so, how is it?

tia,
tishee

I call myself transitioning now, but I used the time release for a couple of years... even bought tub of it off of Ebay. It can texturize or perm straight, just depending on how long you leave it on... hence the term time release. I don't time my applications and neither does my stylist, just when it got to the condition we wanted it and then we rinsed. Loved loved loved it and also loved the Lo-Lye when I was colored.

I have fine hair just so you know.

My stylist has been using DE on me for years, and it is GREAT as a texlax. I have also noticed that my thickness has not been compromised at all (when he used Affirm, I noticed my hair was a little thinner, but not enough to be a problem because I have dense, thick strands).

me too :look: but never really got a chance to try DE(I have always wanted to but there doesn't seem to be any stylists in the area that use the line for some reason). I think I am going to go with the time release relaxer if I decide to relax my hair again this year. Do you mind me asking that if the hair is relaxed bone straight with the time release does it tend to look lifeless and dull(stick straight). The lady that did my corrective relaxed used Designer Touch, although she stated that she used the complete Affirm fiberguard kit when I made my appt./at my consultation:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:, and it was just HORRIBLE.

LisaLisa do you mind me asking which formula your stylist uses and how long it processes for?

I love Design Essentials!!!!

It does not break my hair down as much as Affirm so my hair still has thickness to it. I also don't have the "oh my goodness, my hair is so straight and flat it won't even hold a curl" feeling.

As a bonus, it now does the wavy when wet thing which I like as my hair would usually just become a flat mess when wet and because to me that says even though I am super straight when I roller set etc, that my hair is somewhat healthier.

Yesterday I was relaxed with the time release though prior to that I have used the "regular"...I'll have to go to the website and check out the real difference.

In terms of application, the stylist applies until it reaches the desired straightness.

He uses the Conditioning Cream formula and it usually takes about 15-18 minutes for him to apply and break down for a good texlax for me. Good luck!

My stylist relaxed me straight, not bone stick straight though. I have thin hair so it didn't take much or long to get it straight. It won't come out that way if it's not left on long. The D.E. lady I called told me that the longer it's kept in the higher the strength. In essence, Time Release can be a mild, regular or super strength... it just depends on how long you leave it in as to which strength you actually get.

thanks pmichael. It may be best for me to go with the conditioning cream regular one instead(unsure if whether or not the stylist I will be going to will possibly over/under process).
