Hello everyone, I'm glad to be finally back posting after a 2 month break from the forum!!!! I need some help, i am currently 4 1/2 months post relaxer, it hasn't been washed in two weeks, so it needs clarifying. Since removing my exstensions i'm having problems with dryness and tangles at the roots, including breakage at the demarcation line. My hair is in serious need of deep conditioning i haven't got any moisturising conditioners or moisturisers left to use on my hair. what products would you suggest for my hair troubles? thanks in advance

Den! We missed U! I'm sorry to hear u R having problems. I really don't know if I can help, but maybe if u do a deep cond. under the dryer. When I DC I add honey, black strap mollasses, and MSM powder to it. It does help with the dryness. How do you stretch your relaxers so long? I have much to learn.:notworthy

Welcome back. :D I don't have any in-house recs for dryness. Clarifying and Aveda DR moisturizing conditioners are the only things that consistantly cut dryness for me. Anyway, welcome back and good luck.

Den1, I am transitioning. I've been deep conditioning once a week starting with dry hair (pre-shampoo or sometimes no-shampoo). I part the hair and apply the conditioner as if I'm doing a relaxer touch-up. Im very heavy-handed. Then I've been using Lisa Akbari's "reconditioning" process - apply the conditioner & plastic cap, sit under dryer for 15 minutes, add more conditioner, back under dryer for 10 minutes, add more conditioner, back under dryer for the last 10 minutes (that's a total of 35 minutes under the dryer).

I have to say it seems to be working as my natural hair is very soft and manageable, and my texturized hair is getting stronger. I don't know whether the added conditioner is really necessary, but since it's working I will continue.

I've been using Miss Key 10 en 1 as my deep conditioner. The Super kind that looks more like a cholesterol-type conditioner, not the Plus (Plus has a lot more protein and dries out my hair). I also use BB Castor oil and WGO, sometimes shea butter.

First off I would worry about clarifying. And I'm not talking ACV rinses, I'm talking hardcore clarifying with a shampoo.

Then a deep moisturizing treatment. I would rec. Keracare Humecto. I love Aveda DR, the CONDITIONER, but I hardly rec. that since people don't prefer to pay that much for a condish. So the second best IMO is keracare Humecto.

Thanks for your suggestion, i have heard good things about honey and black strap mollasses from Mahalialee. As for relaxer strecthes I personally don't do anything special,i just wear my hair in a bun or exstentions. The key is to stay out of your hair as much as possible and use the correct non damaging styling tools and good moisture.

Thanks for your help, i'm considering using pantene to clarify my hair since its quite effective in this area. I'm not especially keen on the Keracare Humecto, due to its high silicone content which doersn't agree with my hair, the Aveda is too expensive for me too.

I would recommend a a good moisturizing poo Nexxus Therappe and Humectress as the DC. If your hair agreed w/cones, I would have recommended Silicone mix, this stuff softens and detangles the NG like nobodys business, but the next best thing is Roux porosity control as a final rinse, it also helps w/a bunch of other stuff.
The avacodo condtioner is great for moisture and shine.

den1 the relaxer u use is the elasta qp NO LYE isn't it? Robyn woods suggests extensions should only be done on lye-relaxed hair..

i think this is your problem/

I would be weary of clarifying at this stage....Moisture moisture, moisture

Nice to see you again!

Adding moisture on top of gunk won't allow the moisture to actually penetrate. I rec. clarifying since she said she was in need of one.

Clarifying can actually help her hair get the moisture it needs.

ITA. You can't moisturize hair that has buildup. The moisture simply won't reach the hair.
