Hey everyone! I've been a member for a while now and finally decided to post something. I have benefitted (sp?) from the great advice and tips I've read. Does anyone know of a way for a type 4 to achieve the look of a 3a/b/c or the texturized look without using harsh chemicals? Like a homemade gel, product, technique, etc. I read Leejure's post about using a natural liquid gel, but I think ValleyGirl made it for her. I'm really into using natural products on my hair. I like to know EXACTLY what I'm putting on it. I make alot of my own products, but I haven't found my "it" product as far as styling goes. My hair is 100% natural, something like a 4a/3c. I usually wear cornrows and micros, but every know and then I press it with the hot comb. I really would like to wear the texturized look, but I don't want to put chemicals back in my hair. I've been relaxer free since November 1999 , did the Big Chop in May 2000, and have let my hair grow down to my shoulders. I rarely use shampoo, I use Aubrey Organics GPB, Elucence Moisture Balance Conditioner, and homemade pomades and hair oils, etc. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I dont have an answer for you...but I had to write in and say...

YOU ARE MY NATURAL HERO!!! And I havent even seen your hair! OMG...Natural since 1999!!!!!!!! I could squeeze you! When can we see pics? How long is it? What do you use on it?

Ok...see now you are going to regret you ever came out to play! I just realized you answered all those questions. I could not help myself I got too excited when I heard how long you've been natural. YOU NEED TO BE GIVING US ADVICE!!!

Glad you came out of lurkdom.

Welcome!! Your regimen sounds great to me....the only thing I can think of to give you a texturized look without chemicals is the lime and coconut milk recipe I was reading about....check the recipe board out. I haven't tried it myself, though, so I don't know how well it works. HTH

Try doing a braid out, it might not look like a 3 or anything, but if you're trying to show length and stretch out your hair or give it a more defined pattern a braid-out might help.

VanDWifey can u share some of your natural recipies for hair or anythingelse. I'm a natural girl my self i like everything i use inside and ouside of my body to be natural, nice to know i'm not alone:)

Hello, Vin. Welcome out of lurkdom!

I agree with Ms. Kenesha. Braidouts or Twistouts are great for giving 4 hair nice waves. That's one of my staple ways to do my hair!!

thanks for the warm welcome and advice.

prettyinpink00: for my hair butter, i use about 50% unrefined shea butter and 50% carrior oils( emu, jojoba, olive, macadamia nut, avocado, extra virgin coconut, etc). i use about 1/2 ounce of each oil. i also infuse my oils with herbs (horsetail, nettle, rosemary, sage, etc) before i mix it with the shea butter. i melt the shea butter down, mix the oils with it, and let it cool in the fridge. i make a hair treatment using a mashed avocado, coconut milk, a squirt of honey, and about a tbsp of a mixture of carrior oils. i mix everything, strain it really, really good, and let it sit on my hair for about 30 minutes. for my hair oil, i just mix all my carrior oils together and put a few drops of tea tree essential oil and rosemary e.o. in it. if you want to know anything else, just ask.
