so, some people say that there's no need to DC beyond about 20 or 30 minutes because the hair only soaks up so much and stops absorbing after about that much time.

others say they find it beneficial to DC for longer amounts of time.

what works for you? do you quick 20/30 minute DC's do the job for you or do you go longer?

i feel like ive always DC'ed for at least a few hours to overnight...havent really tried out a shorter DC...maybe I should see if it works sometime.

Usually any where from 20 minutes to 1 hour. I 'rarely' DC overnight. (Steam)

But I may start DCing overnight epecially after a Hendigo Treatment.

at least an hr. i don't use heat.

i usually end up doing more than an hour because i get lazy, start doing other ish or fall asleep (washing my hair makes me tired).

On Wednesdays no longer than 15 mins
On the weekend up to an hour or whenever i get around to washing it out.

30 mins - 1 hour for me... all day or all night dc's weaken my hair...sometimes i use heat other times i steam or more often than not i baggy and silk scarf it to capture body heat

yeah, i dont usually have a set time...i tend to get lazy, too, so if i do plan and say "i'll leave it on for x amount of time" i usually end up going beyond that...or sometimes getting impatient and rinsing earlier. i just go by my mood, really. sometimes you dont want to hop in the shower at that time...sometimes you dont feel like dealing with it and you just want to get it rinsed and over with.

no more than 30 mins under the steamer.
45 - 1 hour with the heat therapy wrap
2+ to overnight with just a plastic cap

When my hair was healthiest I was DC'ing overnight then I got lazy and my hair suffered.
So I'm going back to overnight.

I used to do 1 hour until I experienced the silkiness (and ease of detangling) of an overnight DC. I always prefer overnight.

It depends on how lazy m feeling or how much other stuff I have to do. But on average, at least an hour.

It really depends on my schedule. If I am pressed for time, I'll DC between 15 and 30 minutes with heat. If I am working on school stuff (lesson plans and activities), I'll DC without heat anywhere from an hour to two hours. I have DC'd overnight 2x and I like the experience, but I probably won't try it again. I don't want to risk over-moisturization. Is that a word? *shrugs*

Great question OP …

When I started my HHJ, I would dc over night to rid my hair of the brittleness and stiffness that my hair suffered from. After doing that for a long while, my hair got mushy. Now, I dc for an hour or two and I get much better results.

Short answer: I dc no longer than two hours …

Overnight. Even 4-5 hrs leaves my hair feeling like it needs more moisture. Last wk I discovered I have low porosity hair so it all makes sense now. :)

Probably too dang on long (hours). I dont do it on purpose but I have other thing to do like browse on here. Yep I am DCing at the moment!

When I DC at home I do 30 minutes to an hour. The only time it goes longer is if I'm sleepy and I'm not doing anything but watching/listening to the television and dose off. At the salon the steam only lasts for 20 minutes but sometimes I have to wait to get the conditioner washed out.

I keep hearing that keeping your hair wet too long makes it weaker hence why I opt for the quicker DC sessions, plus my hair does just fine with the 30 - 1 hour

15 min w/heat

1-12 hrs without heat. Depends on if I have somewhere to go, or if I'm styling my hair after.

30 min - 1 hr for protein

when my hair was shorter than SL i swore by DCing overnight, because i could easily rinse it out in the morning & apply my leave-in & airdry within a couple hours. now if i DC'd overnight regularly thats 8 hours of DCing & atleast 8 hours of drying time, & i dont have time for that. especially if im doing a braid or twistout. i'll dc overnight occasionally, esp. if i'm going to straighten my hair, but most of the time i'll DC for a couple of hours then rinse and style my hair so it can be dry (or almost dry) in the morning.

i use to do 30 to 45 min heat cap, conditioner is melted...

since joining here I'm up 1 hr + twice sometimes.....

I'm never doing 6 or 7 mos stretch again...... :nono: too much work

over 1 hour conditioning(?)..:look:
