Good morning chicas. I'll get right to it...

I love the look of black black hair. I think it looks exotic. My natural color is off black to dark brown I believe and I currently have it dyed lighter than that (a medium reddish brown.) I was thinking about going black again and while describing this to a friend, she said, "No if you go darker, just go with a medium-dark brown. Darker skinned girls don't look good with very black hair."
Now of course every person is going to look better/different with different hair colors based on more than just skin color but her comment made me remember that I do usually see darker skinned girls with brown hair, usually not black so I don't have a good idea really of what it looks like. I've had my hair very black several times before but it's been awhile.

What do you all think? How many "skin twins" with black hair to I have out there so that I can compare? (Wow, that was a triple unintentional rhyme :D)
Alright sorry....it's obviously too early for me :D:D
Both natural and dyed black heads are welcome. Pics would be wonderful!

Pero, Lo siento I dont believe I am your skin twin...But I still love the look!

I'm not dark, skin, but Kelly Rowland is, and I think she looks better the with the jet black hair she was sporting. If anything, it's the light skinned girls like me that some think Black hair doesn't look right on because people say it looks too "harsh" against our skin. Go ahead and color that hair!!! :) May I recommend Bigen haircolor in Oriental Black, it's great haircolor and long lasting too!!

Omgoodness, that is very ridiculous. If that was the truth, then how do you explain the very dark Desi people with jet black hair? Jet Black hair on dark skinned comes across exotic to many people, and I think most times because it makes the person appear mixed. That's been my experience. My natural hair color is dark brown, but I have had blue black hair color in the past and was consistently asked if I was coolie and what I wax mixed with. It's especially nice when you have an even darker glowing tan from the sun.

I say go ahead and do it girl :)

I don't know any black people with jet black hair and I always thought it didn't look right for some reason. :look:

I always thought people with yellow or golden undertones looked better with it because of the color contrast.

I don't know, I think it may look nice now but it depends on how the person looks. Like, Kelly Rowland may look good but someone else dark may not. It depends on your features and all that good stuff.

Many people can pull off different looks but it has to do with how you look first. Like there are many Dominicans who are dark and have jet black hair.:yep:

I always thought it was a nice contrast to have jet black against lighter skin because it isn't expected.:yep: My stylist believes jet black looks to harsh too. IDK, I still love it! LOL.

You're new signature is gorgeous! Can I have your autograph!

My hair is BLACK! No highlights whatsoever. Even in the bright sun my hair is still black. I thought about getting highlights but everytime I set an appt. I say.oh.....just wash and set. :perplexed I get scared .

I once had my hair an auburn color when I was around 20 or so. It was beautiful for about 4 weeks until I started spending a lot of time in the sun. I do A LOT of outdoors stuff so...by the end of the summer my hair was more orange than auburn. I died it black and I've never touched the color again.

lol I've always liked it too which is why I went ahead and did it despite my mom's hesitance, but when I was finshed with it she really liked it after all !! :)

So, you don't think it is bad? IDK what I want to do. I was thinking of henng it brown since my hair is like a 4 but I think black looks nice.:look:

I Love Love Love black hair! My hair can't be black enough! I think it looks beautiful and exotic on a variety of skin tones. As far as dark skin women go, I think black hair looks great, though there are many other colors that look good as well. I think your friend was trying to get across that black hair isn't the only option for dark skin women, there are other colors that might complement the skin better.

I've never heard of this. I know/see several women who have dark complexions and jet black hair and nothing struck me odd about it. Go for it!

It depends on the person, their complexion and undertones. Jet black hair looks nice on me, but my natural hair looks better. It almost matches my skin tone and it has all times of reddish and light brown streaks. People often ask me whether my natural hair is dyed....

Hi ladies

I totally agree with this, me and Kelly have the same skin tone and wear jet black/blue black in my hair alot and I love it.

I'm dark skin and I LOOOVE jet black hair! My hair is naturally dark brown, but it is currently dyed with Bigen Oriental Black (see avatar). I always get lots of compliments when my hair is freshly dyed. There are many many colors that look great on dark skin, you just have to choose one that compliments your skin tone.

to each her own *responding to your friend's claim that blk hair on dark skin doesn't look good*

personally, as a dark skinned woman, i love the way my hair looks with black hair. my natural hair color is 1B (the darker shade not the almost brown shade ) but when i ocassionally dye it black, i get so many compliments on how healthy my hair looks

girl, do what you do! i think it will be a positive experience!

I'm dark skinned and I use a rinse to get deep black hair. Over the years with a relaxer my hair has gotten a brownish color that gets worse when my hair needs moisture. Dark black hair on me makes my hair look healthier and accentuates my dark skin. :lick:

I think it's quite the opposite. Black hair I think looks best on darker skinned people. It's too dark on some lighter skinned people. But it really depends on the person and their skin's undertones ultimately. Personally, even thought I'm dark skinned lighter hair gives me extra oomph factor.

Same here, only I use henna and indigo glosses to darken my hair and it looks a thousand times better.

ETA: Does anyone have any examples of a dark-skinned person (famous or not) with dark hair and light(er) hair? My mind is drawing a blank.

Im dark skinned and I love jet black, blue black hair with a passion!!!!!! Currently my hair is dark brown from henna but in dec for my 1 year healthy hair anniversary Im going to do a jet black rinse. I think it makes the person look exotic and beautiful. But to each his own.

It does look exotic! Look at Danielle and Dion, and from ANTM. They look so beautiful with their dark black hair and dark brown skin. My little sister (well she's 19 now, lol) I'll post a pic of her in a minute and 2 of my friend's, they look like queens and all of them have jet black hair and dark brown skin (mahogany undertones), with lovely cheekbones.

I like the look of dark skin and black hair. The two deep tones play off each other, to my eyes. But then I love deep black colored hair, period.

Absolutely no disrespect intended to your friend - she's entitled to her opinion - but whenever somebody says "too dark" for something or other, a little bell goes off in the back of my head. It's not lighter or darker; it's the individual tones of the skin.

i love jet black hair on any coloring now a days.

doesn't make sense that dark brown girls w/ jet black hair would look anything but good

Sometimes people attribute the effect to the persons skin color but I actually think it is the dye color that looks good or not. If I were you I would go with Bigen oriental Black or Natural Instincts Midnight Black (semi permanant). Both of these are really pretty blacks with lots of shine. I wore black hair for 4 years and these are the only two dyes I would go with again.

I LOOOOOVE jet black hair on dark skin tones. I think it's stunning! When you do it, I wanna see pics :yep::grin:
