Dark and Lovely Permanent Hair Colour

If this is the same stuff I used when I was a teen I'd say DON'T USE IT (I know I'm yelling but for a good reason)!!! Dark & Lovely is way too harsh too use. If it's a permanent color it more than likely contains ammonia & peroxide. You will be left with some very chewed up looking hair if you don't double up on your conditioning treatments.

I know this from experience. When I was in high school I used D&L I think it was Honey Blonde or something like that. I knew nothing about haircare back then. That stuff messed up my hair something awful. When I went to the hair salon the guy doing my hair said D&L is just like bleaching your hair. He said, "It makes the hair look trashy". Well he knew what he was talking about. I would suggest using a semi-permanent hair color. I used Clairol's Textures & Tones a couple of months ago and it was very gentle on my hair. That's just my suggestion but there are many other brands that you can use.

Dark and lovely does contain a&p. But dag. Makes the hair look trashy? Maybe it was just that color you used or something.

Everyone I know who has used D&L hair color has complained of extremely dry hair. And the colors don't turn out as nice as the ones on the box. I'd stay away if I were you.

A friend of mine who relaxes and colors likes Clairol Beautiful Collection. Check it out at adiscountbeauty.com/page24.html

I'd like some suggestions on permanenet colors TO use. Here's my list:

1. Textures and Tones

It's a little short so far. Can someone help me out with that ?

I've never used the Dark and Lovely Permanent Hair Color but I used to use the Dark & Lovely Semi-Permanent black rinse. I had no problems with it at all. However, I don't color my hair anymore so it's been a few years since I've used it.

I think you should give the T&T a try first.

my hair. My hair was like at the best health ever but I was using black rinses, I was like hey my hair is strong let me just dye it black. I had used permanent dyes b4 but the ones tailored to white womenl like FERIA and such. So I reasoned D&L has black girls on the box they relax their hair just like me, so this should be healthier for me. Boy was I wrong, over time that pretty much melted my hair. My edges were horrible it look like i had an 180 baby bang. It was extremely too drying. That was my story listen to my aunts. She wanted a one streak in the front so she just put D&L on one section and that section just kept on breakin and breakin until it looked like a lil slick like that boy from the lil rascals. Try Herbal essences, open, or the such they had no damagin effects on me.

I used this brand in Roasted Chesnut, my hair came out exactly like the color on the box and I received no breakage from it. I think if you have a healthy regime already it won't destroy your hair.

girl you ain't never lied. I'd stay as far away from D&L as possible. Not even a 10 foot pole is far enough. That crap will *** your hair up. There are just so many other better choices out there.

I can't believe it's still on the market.

I agree - I would stay as far away from D&L as possible. I ahve neer known anyone to have vibrantly healthy, colored hair after having used it. Myself included.

Definitely go with T&T.

I have to agree with the other posters. When I used it years ago it broke off my hair like crazy. It made my hair dry and brittle.

The brand that I have tried and like a lot is Kazoma (sp). I will have to check for the correct spelling, but it comes in a blue box. It doesn't have a running liquid forumla, but it is more like a cream if that makes sense.

Tracy, what color is your hair now? I'm thinking about going back to black so I can find phonyponies to match my hair easily, versus trying to figure out how to match a phonypony with black roots and orangey brown hair.

This permanent dye broke all of my best friend's hair off. She cried so long and hard. She had hair past shoulder length and now she is str8 up bald.

Now she likes the bald-headed look...

It's a like a medium red brown. There's a very persistent patch of very dark brown/black in the front - which foiled my last coloring attempt. It's in my bang area though so a few trims and it'll be out. I'm going to try for some higlights in the early spring or summer.

A medium red brown sounds just like what I'm looking for only I would like to use it for highlights. What brand of color did you use?

I'm sure it'll be pretty. It sounds pretty as is though.

Can you recommend a black rinse that doesn't stick easily? I want to go black, but I don't want to be stuck with that color not washing out, as what happened to me when I used Rejuvatone.

SSC --> No brand of color. This it what my hair has faded down to since I went darker. I've been using a rinse to maintain a bland between the darker and lighter tones. I use Sebastian in Golden Walnut for that. As you are probably aware of by virtue of all your color research,
smile.gif
Sebastian won't give you highlights.

Karonica --> I find that the Adore colors wash out of my hair more quickly and throughly than any others I've tried without compromising the richness in tone. I wouldn't go black though. If you ever want to be light again I wouldn't risk it. I'd use a medium brown and then get like a 1B ponytail. It'll cover your color without removing the ability to go light. Don't forget - your light hair is porous and is going to grab any color a little more in spots than others (that's why I have this dark patch - it just HUNG ON to that black color I initially applied). Also considering using a filler (protein) when you cover the color so you cover it as evenly as possible. I realized after my "color covering" experience that this would have helped. That and not using black.
laugh.gif
Adore makes a medium brown that should work well. You can always go progessively darker with rinses without damage - as you know so it's safer, to me, if you ever want to lighten up again. Good luck!

P.S. - the color is ok - it's just ain't "sayin' nuthin'" - feel me?

I have use Dark and Lovely permanent and semi permanent colors in the past and did not have any problems.
The reason I stopped using the permanent color it did not
last very long in my hair.
I now use Texture and Tone and I love it.

For years I used the Golden Bronze color and I got alot of compliments. I was also using Optimum lye relaxer...(surprised I didn't go bald). When I started getting my hair done at the dominican salon I was told that using both products was causing my hair to break off. I was also told if I still wanted to put color in my hair to use a rinse or semi-perm color and change my relaxer. I now use the affirm sensitive scalp relaxer and gentle treatment semi-perm in caramelized cocoa. My hair is in much better condition now with a medium brown color. I said all of that to say don't use it.

Unfortunatly I don't have a lot of choice here(Belgium)
The only ones they have are from D&L and I believe they have some from gentle treatment to but I did'nt like the colors
Before they used to have Motions color return and I was willing to try that but they don't have it anymore

Are there any semi-permanent brands for "white" people that have worked for you?

I used to use D&L Honey Blonde-- it never broke my hair or made it look nasty. I even had to apply it more than once to get the right color. I used it for touch up's also. It's all about maintaining your hair. If it was a horrible product that was tearing up the majority of the user's hair-- it wouldn't be on the market. I used it about 8 years ago & I used it for about 2 years. If you look at my "pictures from the past" on my link, you will see a picture of me with blonde hair. This is the D&L Honey Blonde hair color. pw: goingnatural
