Crown & Glory Method without extensions?

Crackers Phinn

Either A Blessing Or A Lesson.
Hey ladies,

I've been checking out the C&G method on http://growafrohairlong.com/ and I think it will be beneficial for my hair.

My issue is that I don't have any experience with twisting or braiding my hair with extensions and for the amount of times I wash my hair it would be hella expensive to have them repeatedly redone at a braid shop. I've watched her tutorial and practiced on my head a couple of times, but it still comes out looking like

I can however do the hell out of twists with my own hair, but C&G seems to depend on the extensions to 'protect' the real hair.

Has anyone had any success with following C&G without using extensions? Or is there anyone who has followed a prolonged braid/twist regimen without adding hair that could give advice on protecting the hair, especially the ends?

TIA

JC

I thought she had something for ladies that wear twists, maybe it was just the washing technique. I think the key is protecting the hair, maybe you could make sure that your twists are styled in a protective manner. She also promotes clean hair and moisture protein balance I think as long as you focus on these things you should be good.:)

I know this doesnt answer your main question, but I just wanted to add that I have had mid sized individual braids in my hair (with extensions) and I washed very frequently with no problems. I was using Surge and MTG at the time and couldnt really stand the smell. I focused on my scalp when washing and smoothed the shampoo and conditoner down the shaft of the braid. I was able to keep my braids for about 6-8 weeks and saw some good growth.

Also I know of women here (den1, if I remember correctly) who just braided or twisted their own hair to protect it. I think it should be in her album. She gave pretty great advice.

I wear my hair in protective styles without extensions constantly, i wear my hair out for maybe 1 week max. This is because my hair type does not like to be "out" my hair is thin and fragile.

I did wear box braids for 7 weeks. I found this to be very beneficial, i did look a hot mess by the end:lol: but i just pulled my hair back with a headband( i don't have no-one to impress:( :bdance:)
I washed my hair every 4 days (co-wash) because i suffer from dry scalp. I moisturised with Elasta QP H2 and glycerin and water. I kept my hair up at all times. I sealed with pil sometimes and very lightly since i don't like oil. I also used aphogee 2 Min's. I think i may have baggied but i can't remember ( it was around November/December)

All JCoily if you can't do braids I'm sure you can do kinky twist extensions if you really want to use fake hair, because apart from the braid at the beginning the rest is just twisting.

Sorry for the gratuitous use of smilies- i just like them

I recently played with the C& G method with out extensions (i wore them with extensions last year) anyway to wards the end of my last stretch i put my hair in 2 strand twists and did everything she did it worked but when it came time to take them out (i left them in for 2 weeks did the whole co washing thing and re braiding) but it seemed like my roots where tangled and so washing them did not work for me since at least every twist came unloose oh yea spraying infusium 23 and surge put me into protein over load so i had to cut that out and i had a lot of build up i would take them down to deep condition

so when i re twisted them i did not co wash them i just left them twisted for 2 to 3 weeks i did moisturize them every day with scurl and water and kept my ends in a bun

when my i get 1 month post i plan to re twist every 2 weeks to assist in my stretch

i'll find some pics (i took pics )

also when i first started my hair jounry my widows peak (had some damage down to it do to some french braides i had years ago me not taking care of my hair preming and all not giving the hair time to regrow basically the lady that did my hair broke off my edges and me perming and not letting it grow in it was always broke off and if i tried to get braids it waould like like thin or some what bald spots since there was never enough hair there to braid

anyway my twists and c& g braids had to be curved over to cover the thin spots now since waiting when i did my second round of twists i had enough hair to twist (yea me ) anyway i'll post the pics i have be right back
