Does it work for you ladies who have this hair texture. Do you do it everyday? I only wash my hair once a week or maybe every 5 days. The problem with my hair is that is gets really tagled when it dries. Even if I use detangling shampoo and then its really fragile when its wet. What do you guys do???

My hair isn't realxed, but my texture is 4b, and I do conditioner washes almost everyday. I use kenra, and detangle while the conditioner is in my hair. That's the only way I can get a comb through it. Then I rinse it out under the shower head, making sure to run my hands from the front to the back, so that I don't re-tangle it.

I would get crazy tangles too when my hair dried. Two things helped me with this.
1.I bought a shower comb to comb my wet hair with after rinsing out conditioner.I lose very little hair with it
2.I started using Loreal smooth intense serum along with my leave-in

Also,do you put your hair in a pony to dry?If I leave my hair open to dry I get tangles no matter what I do.

Hey Diamondchair, how about washing your hair when in plaits? Sort of like the Crown and Glory Technique's author Robin suggests. Robin is relaxed and Denise, a member who also uses this method, is natural, and it works for both of them: Shampooing 4A/4B Hair

Thats amazing to me. Maybe because I have two textures, relaxed and new growth, it doesnt work for me

I have new growth and relaxed 4a/b hair and my hair doesn't tangle. I comb my hair with the conditioner in my hair too. Start from the back and work your way to the front and go from top to bottom like Wanakee suggested.

It does not work for me. I tried doing it for a week straight at one time, but my hair started coming out a lot. Now, I wash my hair once or twice a week and that's it.

It does not work for me. I did it for 2 weeks once (when I first read about it on this board) and had abnormal shedding. My hair didn't look right either, kind of dull-looking. I now wash and condition my hair 2 x per week and it looks great every single time with hardly any shedding.

Well I am a 4a daily washer. I detangle while conditioner is in my hair and I also detangle after the conditioner is out under runner water. I haven't had any problems with tangles yet. I dry my hair in a ponytail and wear it in protective styles daily.

I'm relaxed and what I do is rinse my hair thoroughly, then follow up with an ACV rinse, then apply my conditioner and let it sit for a minute while i do other stuff in the shower. Then I use a seamless wide toothed bone comb to rinse it out under the stream of water. I then follow that up with a leave in using Giovanni's direct leave in conditioner and oil then put it up in a loose bun then tie it down. i don't comb airdried hair but in between i just lightly spritz with the leave in and water to keep it moist.

Diamondchair3,
Did you mean Deep Conditioning treatments,
or washing your hair with only conditioner?

Because I'm currently trying to only wash my hair with conditioner, and I'm finding it very hard. I tried again today and the only way I got my scalp clean was to scrub the heck out of it until the pads of my fingers were numb! I also used a lo-o-t of water which dried out my hair, so I'm sitting in a deep conditioner right now. I hope to get the hang of it soon.

As far as deep conditioning treatments, I do that every time I shampoo. Whether it's slaping it on and washing it out while I'm still in the shower, or sleeping in it overnight.

I am putting my 2 cents in b/c I have lots of 4a hair--No, I don't do it daily. I don't (my opinion) think that wetting the hair daily is good. You're right that it is fragile when wet.

I do conditioner washes about 3-4 times per week (whenever I go to the gym) and have to be very careful with combouts, but other than that, airdrying every time with no problem. I'm 4a (wishing I was a 4b) and it works fine for me.

I was talking about washing my hair with conditioner. Thanks for everyones advice about the topic. Also I have a question about putting my hair in a ponytail wehn it is wet. When I pull my hair when its wet it breaks very easily. How do you ladies do it? I still cannot comprehend the idea for my haair without alot of my hair coming out. I think that maybe this technique is not for me. Also I let my hair dry out into an afro b/c if I try to comb it when its wet all I hear is snapping

Thank you nonie. I will try this process but when I braid my hair it just unravels. Especially if I'm braiding hair that has been curled or blowdried.

Thats what I was thinking Supergirl that to wet my hair everyday would not be good for MY hair. Everyone is different. That is why I just wash once a week. I just lose soooo much hair when its wet.

I keep trying to figure this out myself. There are posts on having wet hair and posts about wet hair being fragile. I suppose I keep my hair in the middle. My hair is probably "damp" at least once a day and this has worked just fine. Only damp b/c I spray it (water, conditioner, & oil) to redo my braidout at night - by morning, it's dry again.

I guess you just have to figure out what works for you.

i am trying this thing out currently which is basically just wetting my hair everyday for a month w/o any products. What do do guys think?I descovered my 3c4ab mixed hair really loves water!YAY!

I tried it during the summer. My hair seemed to enjoy it but I've stopped now for the sake of convenience. Now I wash with shampoo and deep condition once a week, and then in the middle of the week I do a conditioner only wash. I let it air dry loose most of the way then put it up or braid it to dry the rest of the way.
One thing I've started doing is not wearing a shower cap on the days when I don't plan to wash my hair. I just let the steam get to it. My hair seems to like it

Diamond, have you tried any protein conditioners? It sounds to me like you may need to build your hair up. Protein conditioners have done wonders for my hair. Many of the ladies here like to use Aubreys Organic GPB. It's not too drying and it makes your hair stronger. I have relaxed 4b hair and I do conditioner washes almost everyday. I also use protein conditioners pretty regularly. The protein keeps my hair from becoming too fragile....

My hair would be a frizzy mess if I did this! In fact, I have to use a scarf AND the shower cap to avoid frizzies from my breakage.

Wow this is late

... but I saw you were asking who the little girl was? Well she's just a little model sporting professionally--done hair

I wish I could say she's mine though!

Are conditioner washes still working for you ladies? If so, how long do you go without shampoo?

For me, it was great when I finally got the hang of it, and rather fun. But now, my hair omits this 'odor' even after I conditioner wash. And when I try to put shampoo in it, seems like my hair gets real stubborn to where I can't even get a comb through my hair even with conditioner piled in it. My hair also feels more delecate. I think I need to experiment with my technique, and maybe even try new shampoos.

I just wanted to see how you ladies were doing with it

Condition Washes work for me. I don't do them everyday because I don't like having wet hair and then the time it takes for it to dry to get to the look I wont really isn't cool.

But I just rinse my hair wash with suave milk and honey or lustrasilk cholesterol..add motions leave in , surge, breakfree, and coconut and castor oil and let dry loose with a bit of a comb out and then when it drys it has a crinkle straight pattern. I pin a little of the front up or some type of style so its not all down in my face Im 4a/b one or the other relaxed.

Everyother day is ok for my hair, but it all depends on the style of choose the day I shampooed if it was a wrap then I WEAR MY WRAP FOR A WEEK. If it was a crinkle style ( i bought setters that crinkle your hair) then im most likely condition washing it in three days because the crinkles start to look busted.

Try adding lemon juice to the conditioner if you feel the conditioner isn't cleaning your scalp/hair. Curly girl offers tips if you can't get the conditioner washes to work right for you.

Thanks for the tip redlight6292

So I guess the lemon juice isn't drying... if used in moderation... I may just give that a try

i tried doing conditioning washes for 3 mos and it didn't work for me. my scalp was clean and loved the water but i lost a lot of hair combing and styling. not to mention my hair wasn't looking to good after a while, i stopped combing all the way through my hair. i got a lot of rude comments about my doo. even my bf asked me if iw as going to walk out of the house like that.lol anyhoo, maybe i didn't know how to care for my wet tresses started breaking off. i got tremendous growth but was set back because of the breakage.

I am a 4A girl with a few patches of 3 in the back. Conditioner washer do absolutely nothing for my hair. Washing once a week followed by a deep conditioner or protein conditioner is all that I need.
